أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ، أنبأ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيِّ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ ذُؤَيْبٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَقَدْ شَقَّ بَصَرُهُ، فَأَغْمَضَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: " إِنَّ الرُّوحَ إِذَا قُبِضَ تَبِعَهُ الْبَصَرُ "، فَضَجَّ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، فَقَالَ: " لَا تَدْعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِلَّا بِخَيْرٍ؛ فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ عَلَى مَا يَقُولُونَ " ثُمَّ قَالَ: " اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِأَبِي سَلَمَةَ، وَأَرْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ فِي الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، وَأَخْلِفْهُ فِي عَقِبِهِ فِي الْغَابِرِينَ، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ، اللهُمَّ أَفْسِحْ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ، وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فِيهِ ".
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) while his eyes were open, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) closed his eyes. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, when the soul is taken, the sight follows it." At this, members of his household cried out. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not supplicate for yourselves except for good, for the angels say Amin to whatever you say." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Allahumma ighfir li-Abi Salamah, warfa' darajatahu fi al-mahdiyyin, wakhlufhu fi 'aqibihi fi al-ghabirin, waghfir lana wa lahu ya Rabb al-'alamin, wafsah lahu fi qabrihi, wa nawwir lahu fihi' (O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, raise his rank among the rightly guided, and be his successor (guardian) among those he has left behind. O Lord of the worlds, forgive us and him. O Allah, make his grave spacious for him and illuminate his grave for him).
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الْفَرَّاءُ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، فَذَكَرَهُ. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو.
Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab al-Farra' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Mu'awiyah bin Amr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated this hadith to us.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو طَاهِرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمُحَمَّدَآبَاذِيُّ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ السُّلَمِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنبأ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي أَنَّهُ، سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَلَمْ تَرَوْا إِلَى الْإِنْسَانِ إِذَا مَاتَ شَخَصَ بَصَرُهُ؟ " قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: " فَذَلِكَ حِينَ يَتْبَعُ بَصَرُهُ نَفْسَهُ ". رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، وَرُوِيَ فِي الْأَمْرِ بِالْإِغْمَاضِ عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَفِيمَا ذَكَرْنَا كِفَايَةٌ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not see that when a person dies, his eyes stay fixed (open)?" They said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah, that is how it is. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is when his sight follows his soul."
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أنبأ أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ قَالَا: ثنا سَعْدَانُ، ثنا مُعَاذٌ، ثنا ⦗٥٤١⦘ سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: " إِذَا غَمَّضْتَ الْمَيِّتَ فَقُلْ: بِسْمِ اللهِ، وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَإِذَا حَمَلْتَهُ فَقُلْ: بِسْمِ اللهِ، ثُمَّ سَبِّحْ مَا دُمْتَ تَحْمِلُهُ ".
Bakr bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: When you close the eyes of the deceased, say: 'Bismillah wa 'ala millati Rasulillah' (In the name of Allah and upon the religion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)), and when you carry him, say: 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah); then, for as long as you are carrying him, keep saying 'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah).
