Sayyidah Aishah bint Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that my father (Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, may Allah be pleased with him) said: I fell ill in Makkah, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me to visit me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on my forehead, then passed his hand over my chest and stomach, and said: 'Allahumma ishfi Sa'dan wa atmim lahu hijratahu' (O Allah, cure Sa'd and complete his emigration for him).

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited a sick person, he would pass his hand over his face and chest and say: 'Adhhib al-ba's, Rabb al-nas, washfi anta al-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifa'an la yughadiru saqaman' (Remove the affliction, O Lord of mankind, and cure, for You are the Healer; there is no cure except Your cure, a cure that leaves behind no illness).
Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the illness in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, I took his (peace and blessings be upon him) hand in order to pass it over his (peace and blessings be upon him) chest with these words, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) pulled his hand away from me and said: 'Allahumma adkhilni al-rafiq al-a'la' (O Allah, admit me into the Highest Companionship).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: He (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to visit a man from among his Companions who had a fever, and I was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of his hand and placed his own hand on his forehead, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) considered that part of the completeness of visiting the sick. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, says: 'It is My fire which I set upon My believing servant, so that it becomes his share of the Fire in the Hereafter.'"
