أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا عَارِمٌ، وَسُلَيْمَانُ، وَمُسَدَّدٌ، قَالُوا: ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ: " صَلَّيْتَ يَا فُلَانُ؟ " قَالَ: لَا قَالَ: " قُمْ فَارْكَعْ ". لَفْظُ عَارِمٍ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَارِمٍ، وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي رَبِيعٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ وَقَدْ مَضَى فِي هَذَا حَدِيثُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَجَمَاعَةٍ فِي بَابِ كَلَامِ الْإِمَامِ فِي الْخُطْبَةِ، وَحَدِيثُ الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي طَلَبَ مَخْرَجًا فِي كِتَابِ الِاسْتِسْقَاءِ.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: A man came while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon to the people on Friday. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O so-and-so! Have you prayed?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stand up and pray."
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السُّوسِيُّ قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدَ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: أَصَابَتِ النَّاسَ سَنَةٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَبَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ فَأَتَاهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلَكَ الْمَالُ وَجَاعَ الْعِيَالُ، فَادْعُ اللهَ لَنَا، فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْنِي يَدَيْهِ، وَمَا نَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ قَزَعَةً، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا وَضَعَهَا حَتَّى ثَارَتْ سَحَابٌ كَأَمْثَالِ الْجِبَالِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْزِلْ عَنِ الْمِنْبَرِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ الْمَطَرَ يَتَحَادَرُ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ فَمُطِرْنَا يَوْمَنَا ذَلِكَ وَمِنَ الْغَدِ وَمِنْ بَعْدِ الْغَدِ وَالَّذِي يَلِيهِ حَتَّى الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى، فَقَامَ ذَلِكَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ أَوْ قَالَ رَجُلٌ غَيْرُهُ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تَهَدَّمَ الْبِنَاءُ وَجَاعَ الْعِيَالُ فَادْعُ اللهَ لَنَا، فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: " اللهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا " قَالَ: فَمَا يُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى نَاحِيَةٍ مِنَ السَّحَابِ إِلَّا انْفَرَجَتْ حَتَّى صَارَتِ ⦗٣١٤⦘ الْمَدِينَةُ مِثْلَ الْحَوْبَةِ وَسَالَ الْوَادِي وَادِي قَنَاةَ شَهْرًا وَلَمْ يَجِئْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ نَاحِيَةٍ مِنَ النَّوَاحِي إِلَّا حَدَّثَ بِالْجَوْدِ ". أَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ، وَمُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the people faced a drought. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon on the pulpit on Friday when a Bedouin came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Wealth has been destroyed and the people are hungry; supplicate to Allah (for us)." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands, and we had not seen even a patch of cloud in the sky. By Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) had not yet lowered his hands when clouds like mountains appeared in the sky. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) had not yet come down from the pulpit when the rain began and its drops were falling from his (peace and blessings be upon him) beard. It rained that day, the next day and the day after that, until the following Friday. Then that same Bedouin, or some other man, stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! The houses have collapsed and the people have remained hungry; supplicate to Allah (for us)." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands and said: 'Allahumma hawalayna wa la 'alayna' "O Allah, turn it (the rain) away from us (let it fall around us)." The narrator says: He (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand, and the clouds cleared completely, and Madinah became free of clouds. The streams and valleys kept flowing for a month, and whoever came from the surroundings of Madinah spoke about the rain.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شَاذِلِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ثنا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ يَعْنِي الْعُثْمَانِيَّ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ أَنَّ الرَّهْطَ الَّذِينَ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى ابْنِ أَبِي الْحُقَيْقِ بِخَيْبَرَ لِيَقْتُلُوهُ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَقَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ رَآهُمْ: " أَفْلَحْتِ الْوُجُوهُ " فَقَالُوا: أَفْلَحَ وَجْهُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ: " أَقَتَلْتُمُوهُ؟ " قَالُوا: نَعَمْ فَدَعَا بِالسَّيْفِ الَّذِي قُتِلَ بِهِ، وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَسَلَّهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَجَلْ، هَذَا طَعَامُهُ فِي ذُبَابِ السَّيْفِ " وَكَانَ الرَّهْطُ: عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَتِيكٍ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُنَيْسٍ، وَأَسْوَدُ بْنُ خُزَاعِيٍّ حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ، وَأَبُو قَتَادَةَ فِيمَا يَظُنُّ الزُّهْرِيُّ، وَلَا يَحْفَظُ الزُّهْرِيُّ الْخَامِسَ. وَهَذَا وَإِنْ كَانَ مُرْسَلًا فَهُوَ مُرْسَلٌ جَيِّدٌ، وَهَذِهِ قِصَّةٌ مَشْهُورَةٌ فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَرْبَابِ الْمَغَازِي، وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فَذَكَرَا هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ وَذَكَرَا مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ مَسْعُودَ بْنَ سِنَانٍ..
Abd al-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the group whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent to Ibn Abi al-Huqayq to kill him killed him and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon on the pulpit on Friday. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw them, he said: 'Aflahat al-wujuh' "The faces have succeeded." They said: "O Messenger of Allah! Glad tidings to you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you kill him?" They replied: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) called for the sword with which he had been killed, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was still on the pulpit. He (peace and blessings be upon him) drew it and said: 'Ajal, hadha ta'amuhu fi dhubab al-sayf' "Yes, this is his food on the edge of the sword." In the group were Abdullah bin Atik and Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with them both), Aswad bin Khuza'i (may Allah be pleased with him) (who was their ally), and also Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), according to the opinion of al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him), but al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) did not remember the name of the fifth.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي حَسَّانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، ح قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُلَيْحٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، فَذَكَرَا هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةَ. وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ مَوْصُولًا مُخْتَصَرًا.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ حَيَّانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْخَالِقِ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُنَيْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى ابْنِ أَبِي الْحُقَيْقِ قَالَ: فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ قَالَ: " أَفْلَحَ الْوَجْهُ " قُلْتُ: وَوَجْهُكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأفْلَحْ " وَرُوِيَ ذَلِكَ بِتَمَامِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُنَيْسٍ مَوْصُولًا.
The son of Abdullah bin Unays narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Ibn Abi al-Huqayq. When I returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The face has succeeded." I said: O Messenger of Allah! Glad tidings to you (peace and blessings be upon him).
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي نَصْرٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو ⦗٣١٥⦘ الْمُوَجِّهِ، ثنا أَبُو عَمَّارٍ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ الْعَبْدَوِيُّ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ، ثنا أَبُو عَمَّارٍ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ، ثنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُبَيْلٍ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: لَمَّا دَنَوْتُ مِنْ مَدِينَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَخْتُ رَاحِلَتِي وَحَلَلْتُ عَيْبَتِي فَلَبَسْتُ حُلَّتِي فَدَخَلْتُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَمَانِي النَّاسُ بِالْحَدَقِ فَقُلْتُ لِجَلِيسِي: يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ هَلْ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَمْرِي شَيْئًا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، ذَكَرَكَ بِأَحْسَنِ الذِّكْرِ بَيْنَمَا هُوَ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ عَرَضَ لَهُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّهُ سَيَدْخُلُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ أَوْ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ مِنْ خَيْرِ ذِي يَمَنٍ وَإِنَّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ لَمَسْحَةُ مَلَكٍ". فَحَمِدْتُ اللهَ عَلَى مَا أَبْلَانِي".
Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when I came near Madinah, I made my mount kneel, opened my bag and put on my suit of clothes. Then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted me with salam, and the people were staring at me. I asked the one sitting next to me: O servant of Allah! Has the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned anything about me? He said: He mentioned you favourably. When something came up during the sermon, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon there will come in through this door, or by this path, the best man of Yemen, and upon his face will be the mark of an angel." I praised Allah Almighty for the favour He had bestowed upon me.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْخَطِيبُ أنبأ أَبُو بَحْرٍ الْبَرْبَهَارِيُّ، ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: " جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ: أَيَّةُ سَاعَةٍ هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: " مَا كَانَ إِلَّا الْوُضُوءُ " قَالَ: وَالْوُضُوءُ أَيْضًا وَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُنَا بِالْغُسْلِ ".
Salim bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came while Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was seated on the pulpit delivering the sermon on Friday. He said: What time is this? Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It was nothing but the ablution (that delayed me). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The ablution too is fine, but you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "used to order us to take the ritual bath (ghusl)."
قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا مِسْعَرٌ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَخْطُبُ لِرَجُلٍ: " هَلِ اشْتَرَيْتَ لِأَهْلِنَا هَذَا أَوْ أَشَارَ بِطَرَفِ أُصْبُعِهِ يَعْنِي الْخُطْبَةَ ".
Imran bin Musa narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), while he was on the pulpit on Friday delivering the sermon, said to a man: "Did you buy this for our family?" Or he pointed with the tip of his finger, meaning (this was) during the sermon.
