Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever, after finishing the prayer, remains sitting in his place, the angels keep supplicating for him as long as his ablution is not broken or he does not stand up. The angels make this supplication: 'Allahummaghfir lahu, Allahummarhamhu' (O Allah, forgive him; O Allah, have mercy on him)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the Fajr prayer, he would remain sitting in his place of prayer until the sun rose.
Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned this narration in his Sahih, and in it is this addition: 'hatta tatlu'ash-shamsu hasanan' (until the sun had fully risen).
Abu Khaythamah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated this report from Simak, and in it he said only: 'fa idha tala'at qama' (when it rose, he stood up); in place of 'hasanan' there is the word 'qama'.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that we said: "O Messenger of Allah! The wealthy have attained the high ranks and carried off the everlasting comfort." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "How is that?" One of the Companions said that they pray as we pray and they wage jihad as we wage jihad, but they have abundant wealth which they spend in the way of Allah, while we have no wealth. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of a deed by which you will reach the ranks of those who went before you and surpass those who come after you? Then no one will reach your rank except a person who brings a deed like it. After every prayer say 'Subhan Allah' (Allah is free of all imperfection) ten times, 'Al-hamdu lillah' (All praise is for Allah) ten times, and 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) ten times."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the needy and destitute came into the presence of the Messenger and said: The wealthy and affluent have attained all the high ranks and carried off the everlasting ease and comfort. They pray as we pray and they fast as we fast, and they also have wealth with which they perform Hajj, and perform Umrah, wage jihad and give charity. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of a deed which, if you do it, you will catch up with those who have gone ahead, no one behind you will be able to reach you, and you will be counted the best people of your time, except a person who does a deed like yours? After every prayer recite 'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah), 'Al-hamdu lillah' (All praise is for Allah) and 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) thirty-three times each." Then the people differed about this hadith. They began saying: 'Subhan Allah' 33 times, 'Al-hamdu lillah' 33 times and 'Allahu akbar' 34 times. The narrator says: I went to Abu Salih and he said: Say 'Subhan Allah', 'Al-hamdu lillah' and 'Allahu akbar', all of them thirty-three times each.

(a) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the poor among the Muhajirun came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! The affluent and wealthy people have gone ahead with the everlasting blessings and the high ranks. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "How is that?" They said: They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, they give charity which we cannot give, and they free slaves. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of a deed which, if you do it, you will catch up with those who have gone ahead and surpass those behind you? No one will be better than you except a person who does what you do." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah! Please do tell us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After every prayer say 'Subhan Allah' (Allah is free of all imperfection), 'Al-hamdu lillah' (All praise is for Allah) and 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) thirty-three times each."
(b) Sumayy (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I narrated this hadith to some of my people and they said: You have made a mistake; say 'Subhan Allah' (Allah is free of all imperfection) 33 times, 'Al-hamdu lillah' (All praise is for Allah) 33 times and 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) 33 times. I went to Abu Salih (may Allah have mercy on him) and mentioned this to him, and he took hold of my hand and said: 'Subhan Allah', 'Al-hamdu lillah', 'Allahu akbar', until they reach the count of 33.
Abu Salih (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the poor among the Muhajirun then came (some time later) to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Our wealthy brothers have also heard this litany that you taught us, and they too are now doing it. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills [Surah al-Jumu'ah: 4]."
(c) Suhayl (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated this hadith with his chain from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). In it there is also the inserted (mudraj) statement of Abu Salih (may Allah have mercy on him) about the second coming of the poor Muhajirun, as well as an addition. Suhayl (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Recite each one eleven times, and that will make 33.
