Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "My view is that regarding the report Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated of the tahlil of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (that is, saying La ilaha illallah), and the report Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated of his (peace and blessings be upon him) takbir (that is, saying Allahu akbar), exactly as these reports have reached us,
I think that he (peace and blessings be upon him) surely recited these words somewhat aloud only so that the people might learn (this remembrance) from him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: I used to recognise the end of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) by the takbir. Amr bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I mentioned this hadith before Abu Ma'bad, and he said: I did not narrate this hadith to you. Amr says: He did narrate this hadith to me, and he was the most truthful of the freed slaves of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
(b) Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says: He must have forgotten it after narrating it.

Abu al-Zubayr relates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite these words after every prayer: 'La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah, la ilaha illallahu wa la na'budu illa iyyah, lahun-ni'matu wa lahul-fadlu wa lahuth-thana'ul-hasan, la ilaha illallahu mukhlisina lahud-dina wa law karihal-kafirun' (There is no god but Allah, alone, He has no partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things. The power to avoid sins and the strength to do good come only from Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him; His is the blessing, His is the bounty and His is the beautiful praise. There is no god but Allah; we make our worship sincerely for Him alone, even if the disbelievers dislike it).
(b) Then Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also used to recite these words after every prayer."

O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the wealth of a wealthy person cannot avail him anything before You (before You only deeds matter)).

You are the One who brings forward and the One who puts back; there is no god but You).
(b) Yusuf bin Ya'qub narrated this hadith with his chain from his father, and he mentioned this supplication between the tashahhud and the salam. Both of these narrations are also in Sahih Muslim.
