Abd al-Rahman bin Abd al-Qari (who had been appointed by Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) as official over the treasury) says: I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) teaching the people the tashahhud in the prayer while he was on the minbar of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He was saying: "O people, when one of you sits in the final tashahhud of his prayer or in the middle tashahhud, let him say: 'Bismillahi khayril-asma' (In the name of Allah, which is the best of all names; all verbal, physical and financial acts of worship are for Allah alone)." O people: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger." O people, the tashahhud comes before the salam: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah." None of you should say: 'As-salamu 'ala Jibra'il, wa 'ala Mika'il, wa 'ala mala'ikatillah' (Peace be upon Jibril, peace be upon Mika'il, peace be upon the angels of Allah). When a person says 'As-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin' (Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah), it is as though he has sent salam upon all the righteous servants of Allah, whether they are in the earth or in the heavens. Then after that let him give the salam.

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the servant of Allah and His Messenger).
These are the words of Ibn Wahb's hadith.
(b) In the narration of Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), he heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) teaching the people the tashahhud on the minbar, and he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'At-tayyibatus-salawatu lillah'; the rest is the same.

(a) Abd al-Rahman bin Abd al-Qari says: I was present with Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was teaching the people the tashahhud on the minbar of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: 'At-tahiyyatu lillah, az-zakiyatu lillah, at-tayyibatus-salawatu lillah, as-salamu 'alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, as-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh' (All verbal, practical and financial acts of worship are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and may the mercy of Allah and His blessings descend. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the servant of Allah and His Messenger).
(b) It is narrated from al-Zuhri that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was teaching the people the tashahhud on the minbar of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah be pleased with them) were present in great numbers, yet the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not object to anything he said. Al-Zuhri used to act upon it, and Ma'mar said: I too act upon it.
(c) Imam al-Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in one of the two narrations reported from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the words of the testimony come before the salam.

It is reported from the wife of the Messenger, the Mother of the Believers Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that when she sat for the tashahhud she would recite: 'At-tahiyyat' (All verbal, financial and physical acts of worship and glorifications are for Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He is alone and has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. Peace be upon you all).

This hadith is reported from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) through another chain, but it does not mention 'wahdahu la sharika lah' (He is alone, He has no partner).
And the narration from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) putting the words of salam first has already passed.

Yahya bin Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard al-Qasim bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) say that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) used to teach us the tashahhud, and she would say, pointing with her hand: 'At-tahiyyatut-tayyibatus-salawatuz-zakiyatu lillah, as-salamu 'alan-nabiyyi wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, as-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh' (All verbal, financial and practical acts of worship and glorifications are for Allah. Peace be upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us too and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and Messenger). Then she would say: "After this, supplicate for yourself."
It has also been narrated through Muhammad bin Salih bin Dinar from al-Qasim bin Muhammad as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet), but the correct view is that it is mawquf (her own words).

Al-Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: This is the tashahhud of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): 'At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat, as-salamu 'alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, as-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh' (All verbal, physical and financial acts of worship, every one of them, are due to Allah. O Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the servant of Allah and His Messenger). Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I said: 'Bismillah'? Al-Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: 'Bismillah' is (said) at all times.
