It is reported from Abd al-Rahman bin Abd al-Qari that he heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) speaking on the minbar of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while teaching the people the tashahhud. He was saying: Say: 'At-tahiyyatu lillah, az-zakiyatu lillah, at-tayyibatus-salawatu lillah, as-salamu 'alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, as-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin, ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh' (All verbal, financial and physical acts of worship are for Allah alone. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy and blessings of Allah. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the servant of Allah and His Messenger).
These are the words of Ibn Wahb's hadith.
(b) In the narration of Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him), he heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) teaching the people the tashahhud on the minbar, and he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'At-tayyibatus-salawatu lillah'; the rest is the same.
