(a) Imam al-Awza'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) about a man who performed ablution and put on his khuffs (leather socks) while in a state of ablution, then broke his ablution and wiped over them, then took them off: Should he wash his feet or perform a fresh ablution? He said: Rather, he should perform a fresh ablution. (b) The Shaykh said: Something with the same meaning is narrated from Makhul (may Allah have mercy on him). Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned it in the Book of Abu Hanifah and Ibn Abi Layla, basing it on the issue of separating the ablution (tafriq al-wudu). These reports have already passed in their chapter. (c) It is reported from Imam al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding a man into whose khuff a pebble enters that he should perform ablution. What he meant is that he will take off the khuff to remove the pebble and so perform ablution again. And Allah knows best.

Only Umar bin Rudayh narrated it, and he is not strong.
