Bayhaqi 1369 — Taking off leather socks and washing the feet in ghusl

Zirr bin Hubaysh said: I came to Safwan bin Assal (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: Something has been troubling my heart regarding wiping over the khuffs (leather socks); have you heard anything from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it? He said: Yes, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us: "When we are on a journey, or he said: travellers, we should not take off our khuffs for three days and three nights, not for relieving ourselves, nor for urination, nor for sleep, except (that we take them off) for janabah (major ritual impurity)."
