Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about water which beasts of prey and animals come to. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the water amounts to two qullahs (large jars), it does not carry impurity (that is, it does not become impure)."

Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the water amounts to two qullahs (large jars), it does not carry impurity (that is, it does not become impure)."
Imam al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) says regarding these two narrations: Since there is disagreement over Abu Usamah in the chain, we wished to know which is correct. On examination, it became clear that Shu'ayb bin Ayyub narrated it from Abu Usamah, from al-Walid bin Kathir, in both ways; so both versions are authentically established from Abu Usamah. Al-Walid bin Kathir also narrates it from both of them. Abu Usamah sometimes narrates it as al-Walid bin Kathir from Muhammad bin Ja'far bin al-Zubayr, and sometimes as al-Walid from Muhammad bin Abbad bin Ja'far. And Allah knows best.

Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates the same from his father, and he from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about water; he narrated it like that (previous hadith).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about water that is in open desert land which animals and beasts of prey come to, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the water is the amount of two qullahs (large jars), it does not carry impurity (that is, it does not become impure)."

Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Umar narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about (the) water that is in open desert land which beasts of prey and dogs come to, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the water amounts to two qullahs (large jars), it does not carry impurity (that is, it does not become impure)."
(b) Likewise, in another narration it says: "dogs and beasts of prey," and this narration is gharib (unusual).
(c) Muhammad bin Ishaq says: dogs and animals. There is disagreement concerning Ibn Ayyash in its chain.

Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Umar says: My father narrated to me (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the water amounts to two qullahs (large jars), it does not become impure."

Asim bin al-Mundhir bin al-Zubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I entered a garden with Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Umar, in which there was a pool of water with the skin of a dead camel in it. He performed ablution from it. I said: "Will you perform ablution from it while the skin of a dead camel is in it?" He narrated a hadith to me from his father, that his father narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When the water reaches the amount of two or three qullahs (large jars), nothing makes it impure."
The narration of the group who did not express doubt is preferable.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that: "When the water amounts to two large jars (qullahs), nothing makes it impure."
(b) This narration is reported from Za'idah as mawquf (a Companion's own statement), and that is what is correct.

It is narrated from Imam Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "When the water amounts to two large jars (qullahs) or more, nothing makes it impure."

(a) Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the water reaches forty large jars, it does not carry filth."
(b) Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that: "When the water reaches forty large jars." But this narration is not correct. Imam al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) says that al-Qasim erred in this narration; he is a severely weak narrator who made many mistakes.

(a) Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: When the water amounts to forty large jars, nothing makes it impure.
(b) Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Hurayrah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the water amounts to forty large jars, it does not carry filth. Others have differed from him; they say: forty large buckets. Some say: 'dalw' (buckets).
(c) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that if there are forty buckets of water, nothing makes them impure, even if a person in a state of major impurity (junub) bathes in it and another follows him; and this (version) is more correct. Ibn Lahi'ah is not used as proof.
(d) In the hadith of the two qullahs, following the Companion whose saying agrees with the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is more fitting.
