Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman al-Himyari said: I met a man who had been a Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), just as Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) had been, for four years. He said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade combing the hair every day, urinating in one's bathing place, a woman bathing with the water left over by a man, or a man bathing with the water left over by a woman; rather, they should both scoop water together.
The narrators of this hadith are thiqat (trustworthy), except that Humayd did not name the Companion who narrated it to him, so it is in the sense of a mursal report; yet it would be a good mursal were it not that it contradicts the established, connected hadiths before it. And the two Shaykhs, Bukhari and Muslim (may Allah have mercy on them both), did not use Dawud bin Abdullah al-Awdi as evidence.

Asim al-Ahwal said: I heard Abu Hajib narrating from one of the Companions of the Messenger (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade performing ablution with the water left over from a woman's ablution.

(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Hakam bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a man to perform ablution with the water left over from a woman's ablution. (b) It is narrated from Imam Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi (may Allah have mercy on him), and in it are the words 'or he said: with her leftover', meaning "with the water she has left over."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Hakam bin Amr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the leftover of a woman, and Asim did not know whether he meant the water left over from her ablution or the water left over from her drinking.

Sulayman al-Taymi said: I heard Abu Hajib narrate from a man among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a man to perform ablution with the water left over by a woman.
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الطهارة / 917
Abu Hajib narrates from a Companion of the Messenger (may Allah be pleased with him) who belonged to the tribe of Banu Ghifar that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a man to purify himself with the water left over from a woman's ablution.
(b) Imam Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Abu Hajib Sawadah bin Asim al-Anazi is counted among the Basrans, and he is also called al-Ghifari. In my view, his narrating from al-Hakam bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) is not authentic.
Imam al-Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It has reached me from Abu Isa al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I asked Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) about this hadith, and he said: The narration of Abu Hajib from al-Hakam bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) is not authentic.
(c) Ali bin Umar al-Hafiz (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Abu Hajib's name is Sawadah bin Asim, and there is disagreement about it. Imran bin Hudayr and Ghazwan bin Jurayj al-Sadusi narrate it from him as mawquf (stopping at the Companion), as the statement of al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him), not as marfu' (attributed) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الطهارة / 918
It is narrated from Sawadah al-Anazi (may Allah have mercy on him) that people gathered around al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) at the place called al-Mirbad, and he forbade them from doing that.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade using the water left over from a woman's ablution.
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الطهارة / 920
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman may perform ablution and bathe with the water left over from a man's ablution and bath, but a man may not perform ablution with the water left over from a woman's bath and ablution.
(b) Ali said that this narration being mawquf (stopping at the Companion) is more likely correct.
(c) The Shaykh said: It has reached me from Abu Isa al-Tirmidhi, from Imam Muhammad bin Isma'il al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him), that he said about the hadith of Abdullah bin Sarjis: in this chapter, the correct view is that it is mawquf. Whoever narrated it as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet) made a mistake.
