Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: A man from the people of Sham asked me about game meat that had been hunted for others: may he eat from it while he is in the state of ihram? I gave him a fatwa that he may eat it. I came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned it to him. He asked: What fatwa did you give? He said: I said: Eat. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Had you given any other fatwa, I would have struck you with the whip. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You have only been forbidden from hunting it.
