Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting the talbiyah for Hajj only, and Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) recited the talbiyah for Umrah, until, when she reached Sarif, she began menstruating. When we reached Makkah, we performed tawaf of the Ka'bah and of Safa and Marwah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has not brought a sacrificial animal with him should come out of ihram." We asked: What kind of release is this? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Complete release." So we went to our wives, applied perfume and put on our clothes, and there were only four nights between us and (the Day of) Arafah. Then on the Day of Tarwiyah (the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah) we entered ihram. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went in to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and found her weeping, and he asked: "What is the matter with you?" She said: The matter is that I have begun menstruating, and the people have come out of ihram while I have not, nor have I performed tawaf of the House, and the people are now going to Hajj. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is a matter which Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam, so take a ritual bath (ghusl) and recite the talbiyah for Hajj." She did so and stayed at every station, until, when she was free of menstruation, she performed tawaf of the Ka'bah and of Safa and Marwah. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have now come out of ihram from both Hajj and Umrah." She said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I feel some unease in my heart that I did not perform tawaf of the House until I had performed Hajj. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abd al-Rahman! Take her and have her perform Umrah from al-Tan'im." And that was on the night of al-Hasbah.
