أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ، بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ثنا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ، قَالَ: كَانَ الْحَسَنُ فِي جِنَازَةِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فَقَالَ أَشْعَثُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الْعِجْلِيُّ: يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ إِنَّهُ لَيُعْجِبُنِي أَنِّي لَا أَسْمَعُ فِي الْجَنَائِزِ صَوْتًا. فَقَالَ " إِنَّ لِلْخَيْرِ أَهْلِينَ " وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ وَالْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ النَّخَعِيِّ أَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا أَنْ يُقَالَ فِي الْجِنَازَةِ: اسْتَغْفِرُوا لَهُ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكُمْ.
Al-Aswad bin Shayban (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) was at the funeral of al-Nadr bin Anas (may Allah have mercy on him), and Ash'ath bin Sulaym al-Ijli (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "O Abu Sa'id! I like it that I hear no voice at funerals." He said: "You are indeed among the people of good."
Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, al-Hasan al-Basri, Sa'id bin Jubayr and Ibrahim al-Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on them) disliked that it be said at a funeral: "Seek forgiveness for him, may Allah forgive you."
