أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الثَّقَفِيُّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، ثنا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ لَمَّا طُعِنَ عَوَّلَتْ عَلَيْهِ حَفْصَةُ فَقَالَ: يَا حَفْصَةُ أَمَا سَمِعْتِ ⦗١٢٠⦘ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " الْمُعَوَّلُ عَلَيْهِ يُعَذَّبُ ". وَعَوَّلَ عَلَيْهِ صُهَيْبٌ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " يَا صُهَيْبُ أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ الْمُعَوَّلَ عَلَيْهِ يُعَذَّبُ " رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّاقِدُ عَنْ عَفَّانَ.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was struck with the dagger, Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) lamented over him, and he said: O Hafsah! Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The one over whom wailing is done is punished." Likewise Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) lamented and wept, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Suhayb! Do you not know that "the one over whom lamentation is made is punished"?
