وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْعَدْلُ، بِبَغْدَادَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَوْحٍ الْمَدَائِنِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْقَاضِي، بِمَرْوٍ، ثنا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ، ثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، قَالَا: ثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أُحُدٍ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِحَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَقَدْ جُدِعَ وَمُثِّلَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ: " لَوْلَا أَنْ تَجِدَ صَفِيَّةُ تَرَكْتُهُ حَتَّى يَحْشُرَهُ اللهُ مِنْ بُطُونِ الطَّيْرِ وَالسِّبَاعِ "، فَكَفَّنَهُ فِي نَمِرَةٍ إِذَا خُمِّرَ رَأْسُهُ بَدَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا خُمِّرَ رِجْلَاهُ بَدَا رَأْسُهُ فَخَمَّرَ رَأْسَهُ، وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنَ الشُّهَدَاءِ غَيْرَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " أَنَا شَهِيدٌ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ "، وَكَانَ يَجْمَعُ الثَّلَاثَةَ وَالِاثْنَيْنِ فِي قَبْرٍ وَاحِدٍ وَيَسْأَلُ أَيُّهُمْ أَكْثَرُ قُرْآنًا فَيُقَدِّمُهُ فِي اللَّحْدِ، وَكَفَّنَ الرَّجُلَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةَ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ، أَنْبَأَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَافِظُ، قَالَ: هَذِهِ اللَّفْظَةُ " وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنَ الشُّهَدَاءِ غَيْرَهُ " لَيْسَتْ مَحْفُوظَةً، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى التِّرْمِذِيُّ فِي كِتَابِ الْعِلَلِ: سَأَلْتُ مُحَمَّدًا يَعْنِي الْبُخَارِيَّ عَنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ يَعْنِي إِسْنَادَهُ، فَقَالَ: حَدِيثُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ هُوَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، وَحَدِيثُ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ هُوَ غَيْرُ مَحْفُوظٍ، غَلِطَ فِيهِ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ⦗١٧⦘ قَالَ الشَّيْخُ: وَقَدْ قِيلَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Battle of Uhud, he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him). His body had been cut and mutilated, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not for (his) paternal aunt Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) seeing (him in this state), I would have left him as he is, until Allah Almighty gathers him from the bellies of the birds and the beasts." Then he was shrouded in a coarse woollen sheet; when his head was covered his feet were exposed, and when his feet were covered his head was uncovered, so his head was covered. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not offer the funeral prayer over any of the martyrs other than him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Today I am a witness over you." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) was putting two and three together in a single grave, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would ask: "Who knew more of the Qur'an?" So he would be lowered into the lahd first; and two or three men were put together in a single shroud.
Ali bin Umar al-Hafiz (may Allah have mercy on him) says: This wording, "and he did not offer the funeral prayer over any of the martyrs other than him", is not mahfuz (preserved). Abu Isa (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) about it, and he said: The hadith of Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) is hasan, and the hadith of Usamah bin Zayd is ghayr mahfuz (not preserved); Usamah bin Zayd erred in it.
