أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أنبا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ الْفَسَوِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ اللُّؤْلُؤِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا النُّفَيْلِيُّ قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَعْقِلِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، فَذَكَرَهُ. ⦗٢٥٦⦘ وَهَذَا مُنْقَطِعٌ، وَإِنْ صَحَّ فَإِنَّمَا أَرَادَ بِمَعُونَةِ الِاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ النُّقَبَاءِ الَّذِينَ بَعَثَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صُحْبَتِهِ أَوْ عَلَى أَثَرِهِمْ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُقْرِئَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَيُصَلِّيَ بِهِمْ، ثُمَّ عَدَدُ مَنْ صَلَّى بِهِمْ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَذْكُورٌ فِي حَدِيثِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ حِينَ أَقَامَهَا مُصْعَبٌ بِإِشَارَةِ أَسْعَدَ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ وَنُصْرَتِهِ إِيَّاهُ.
Al-Nufayli (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I read to Ma'qil bin Ubaydullah (may Allah have mercy on him) from al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him), and then he mentioned this hadith. This report is munqati' (its chain is broken). If it is authentic, then what is meant is the twelve chiefs (nuqaba) who were sent to Madinah with him or after him, so that he would teach the Muslims the Qur'an and lead them in prayer. Then the number of Muslims who prayed with him is mentioned in the hadith of Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), when Sayyiduna Mus'ab (may Allah be pleased with him) established it at the direction and with the support of Sayyiduna As'ad bin Zurarah (may Allah be pleased with him).
