وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِجَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ: أَكُنْتَ تُجَالِسُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الصَّمْتِ، قَلِيلَ الضَّحِكِ، وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَبَسَّمُ.
Simak (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I said to Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him): Did you use to sit with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remain silent for long and laughed little. His (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions would recite poetry, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would smile.
