أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، بِبَغْدَادَ، أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ السَّمَّاكِ، ثنا حَنْبَلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، حَدَّثَنِي سِمَاكٌ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ: رَأَيْتَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الصَّمْتِ، وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ عِنْدَهُ، وَيَذْكُرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، وَيَضْحَكُونَ، فَيَتَبَسَّمُ مَعَهُمْ إِذَا ضَحِكُوا.
Simak (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him): I asked: Did you see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remain silent for long, and his (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions would recite poetry and talk about the Jahiliyyah in his presence and laugh, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) would only smile when they laughed.
