Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was travelling towards Syria (al-Sham). On the way, at night, he (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the voice of a camel-driver singing huda, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take me quickly to this huda singer." The narrator said: They hurried until they reached him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the greeting of peace. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Which people are you?" They replied: Mudar. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We too belong to Mudar." The narrator said: That night he (peace and blessings be upon him) traced his lineage to Mudar. A man said: O Messenger of Allah! I was the first to sing huda to camels in the Jahiliyyah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How was that?" He said: A man of ours raided some camels and drove them off. He kept telling his slave (or his hired man): Gather them together. He refused, and the camels began to scatter, so he struck him and broke his hand. The slave began crying: Oh my hand, oh my hand! And the camels began to gather, and he was saying: Say it like this! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to laugh.
(b) Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that our camel-driver had become slack.
