أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أنبأ سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: أَرْدَفَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: " هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنْ شِعْرِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ شَيْءٌ؟ "، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: " هِيهِ "، قَالَ: فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ بَيْتًا، فَقَالَ: " هِيهِ "، قَالَ: فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ حَتَّى بَلَغْتُ مِائَةَ بَيْتٍ..
Amr bin al-Sharid narrates from his father (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seated me behind him (on his mount) and said: "Do you remember any of the poetry of Umayyah bin Abi al-Salt?" I said: Yes. He said: "Recite." He says: I recited a verse, and he said: "Recite more," until I had recited a hundred verses.
