وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ثنا بِشْرٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ مَنْ لَا يُتَّهَمُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْأَنْصَارِيَّ وَكَانَ قَدْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا، وَهُوَ جَدُّ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَسَنٍ أَبُو أُمِّهِ، قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ الْجَيْشِ رَافِعًا عَقِيرَتَهُ يَتَغَنَّى النَّصْبَ ".
Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Uqbah bin Amr al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in Badr, and he is the maternal grandfather of Zayd bin Hasan. Sulayman says: The one who heard him informed me that he was on his mount, as commander of the army, singing aloud in a melodious tune.
