وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ التَّنُوخِيُّ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْمُهَلَّبِ أَبُو كُدَيْنَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، قَالَ: كَانَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ حُذَيْفَةَ قَاضِيًا، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَشْرَافِ وَهُوَ يَسْتَوْقِدُ فَسَأَلَهُ حَاجَةً، قَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ حُذَيْفَةَ: أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُدْخِلَ إِصْبَعَكَ فِي هَذِهِ النَّارِ، قَالَ: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ قَالَ: " أَفَبَخِلْتَ عَلِيَّ بِأُصْبُعٍ مِنْ أَصَابِعِكَ فِي هَذِهِ النَّارِ، وَسَأَلْتَنِي جِسْمِي "، أَوْ قَالَ: " ⦗٢٢٨⦘ كُلَّهُ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ؟ ".
Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Abu Ubaydah bin Hudhayfah (may Allah have mercy on him) became a judge. A man of nobility came to him while he was kindling a fire, and asked him for a favour. Ibn Hudhayfah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "I ask you to put your finger into this fire." He said: "Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)!" He said: "Are you stingy with one finger of yours, while you would push my whole body into the Fire?"
