أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ السَّمَّاكِ، ثنا حَنْبَلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا يَزِيدُ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ هَارُونَ، أنبأ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ كَتَبَ مَرَّةً إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَبْدَأَ بِنَفْسِهِ، فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا بِهِ حَتَّى كَتَبَ: إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ".
Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he once wrote to Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and wanted to begin with his own name, but the people kept urging him until he wrote: "To Mu'awiyah, from Abdullah bin Umar."
