Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Companions took a man of Banu Uqayl captive, and then he mentioned the hadith. The narrator said: The she-camel of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was seized and a woman of the Ansar was taken captive. The she-camel had been seized before her; it was among them, and they would bring their livestock to them. The narrator said: One day she got free of her bonds and came to the camels. Every camel she approached grumbled, until the woman came to that she-camel and put a rein on it, and it did not grumble, even though it was a noisy she-camel. The woman mounted it and drove it on. The woman was searched for, but they could not catch her. The woman vowed that if Allah saved her, she would slaughter that she-camel. When the woman arrived, the Companions recognised the she-camel: this she-camel belongs to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The woman said that she had vowed that if Allah saved her she would slaughter this she-camel. The Companions said: "Do not slaughter this she-camel until we ask permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Companions came and informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that so-and-so had come on your she-camel and had vowed that if Allah saved her she would slaughter it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Subhan Allah! What an evil reward, that if Allah saved her she would slaughter it! There is no fulfilment of a vow made in disobedience to Allah, nor shall a vow be fulfilled concerning what the servant does not own." (Or he said: "What the son of Adam does not own.")
