Book of Marriage
باب: ما أمره الله تعالى به من اختيار الآخرة على الأولى، ولا يمد عينيه إلى زهرة الحياة الدنيا، فقال تعالى: ولا تمدن عينيك إلى ما متعنا به أزواجا منهم زهرة الحياة الدنيا لنفتنهم فيه ورزق ربك خير وأبقى
Chapter: What Allah the Exalted commanded him (peace and blessings be upon him) of preferring the Hereafter over this world and not extending his eyes towards the splendour of worldly life, the Exalted saying: "And do not extend your eyes towards what We have given some groups of them to enjoy, the splendour of the life of this world, that We may test them thereby; and the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting"
Bayhaqi 13320 — What Allah the Exalted commanded him ﷺ of preferring

وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أنبأ أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَخَيَّرَهُ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، فَاخْتَارَ الْآخِرَةَ وَلَمْ يُرِدِ الدُّنْيَا ".
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and gave him (peace and blessings be upon him) the choice between this world and the Hereafter, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) chose the Hereafter and did not want this world.
