Book of Marriage
باب: ما أمره الله تعالى به من اختيار الآخرة على الأولى، ولا يمد عينيه إلى زهرة الحياة الدنيا، فقال تعالى: ولا تمدن عينيك إلى ما متعنا به أزواجا منهم زهرة الحياة الدنيا لنفتنهم فيه ورزق ربك خير وأبقى
Chapter: What Allah the Exalted commanded him (peace and blessings be upon him) of preferring the Hereafter over this world and not extending his eyes towards the splendour of worldly life, the Exalted saying: "And do not extend your eyes towards what We have given some groups of them to enjoy, the splendour of the life of this world, that We may test them thereby; and the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting"
Bayhaqi 13319 — What Allah the Exalted commanded him ﷺ of preferring

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أنبأ أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنبأ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " نُصِرْتُ بِالرُّعْبِ، وَأُعْطِيتُ الْخَزَائِنَ، وَخُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ أَنْ أَبْقَى حَتَّى أَرَى مَا يُفْتَحُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي وَبَيْنَ التَّعْجِيلِ فَاخْتَرْتُ التَّعْجِيلَ ".
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been helped with awe, and I have been given the treasures, and I was given the choice to remain alive and see what will be opened up for my Ummah, and I was also given the choice of hastening, but I preferred hastening."
