Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) said that a son of Uthman bin Ubaydullah bin Humayd killed a pigeon. He came to Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and spoke to him about it, and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Slaughter a sheep, to be given in charity. Ibn Jurayj said: I said to Ata (may Allah have mercy on him): Was it one of the pigeons of Makkah? He said: Yes.
(b) Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that for a pigeon a sheep is due; none of it is to be eaten, and it is to be given in charity.
(c) Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that for the khudari (a greenish bird, also called akhyal), the dibsi (a kind of pigeon of dusky colour), the qumri (a sweet-voiced bird resembling the turtle-dove), the qatah (sandgrouse) and the partridge, a sheep is due for each.
