Hadith 1726
وحَدَّثَنَاه قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، وَابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ مُوسَى كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِهِمْ جَمِيعًا " فَيُنْتَثَلَ " إِلَّا اللَّيْثَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ فَإِنَّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ " فَيُنْتَقَلَ طَعَامُهُ " كَرِوَايَةِ مَالِكٍ .
This hadith has been narrated through another chain of transmitters with a slight variation of words.
Hadith 1735
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، وَأَبُو أُسَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ يَعْنِي أَبَا قُدَامَةَ السَّرَخْسِيَّ قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ كلهم ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَب ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا جَمَعَ اللَّهُ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُرْفَعُ لِكُلِّ غَادِرٍ لِوَاءٌ ، فَقِيلَ هَذِهِ غَدْرَةُ فُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانٍ " ،
It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When Allah will gather together, on the Day of Judgment, all the earlier and later generations of mankind, a flag will be raised (to mark off) every person guilty of breach of faith, and it will be announced that this is the perfidy of so and so, son of so and so (to attract the attention of people to his guilt).
Hadith 1738
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُسْتَمِرُّ بْنُ الرَّيَّانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَضْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لِكُلِّ غَادِرٍ لِوَاءٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُرْفَعُ لَهُ بِقَدْرِ غَدْرِهِ أَلَا وَلَا غَادِرَ أَعْظَمُ غَدْرًا مِنْ أَمِيرِ عَامَّةٍ " .
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Sa'id that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: On the Day of Judgment there will be a flag for every person guilty of the breach of faith. It will be raised in proportion to the extent of his guilt; and there is no guilt of treachery more serious than the one committed by the ruler of men.
Hadith 1739
وحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِعَلِيٍّ ، وَزُهَيْرٍ ، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعَ عَمْرٌو ، جَابِرًا يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْحَرْبُ خَدْعَةٌ " .
It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: War is a stratagem.
Hadith 1749
وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ،
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of 'Ubaidullah with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1753
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ مَعَ مَنْ خَرَجَ مَعَ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ فِي غَزْوَةِ مُؤْتَةَ ، وَرَافَقَنِي مَدَدِيٌّ مِنْ الْيَمَنِ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِهِ غَيْرَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : فِي الْحَدِيثِ ، قَالَ عَوْفٌ : فَقُلْتُ يَا خَالِدُ أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَضَى بِالسَّلَبِ لِلْقَاتِلِ ، قَالَ : بَلَى وَلَكِنِّي اسْتَكْثَرْتُهُ .
It has been narrated on the authority of Auf bin Malik al-Ashja (RA) 'i who said: I joined the expedition that marched under Zaid bin Haritha to Muta, and I received reinformcement from the Yemen. (After this introduction), the narrator narrated the tradition that had gone before except that in his version Auf was reported to have said (to Khalid): Khalid, didn't you know that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (way peace be upon him) had decided In favour of giving the booty (sized from an enemy) to one who killed him? He (Khalid) said: Yes. but I thought it was too much.
Hadith 1754
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ الْأَكْوَعِ ، قَالَ : " غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَوَازِنَ ، فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ نَتَضَحَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى جَمَلٍ أَحْمَرَ ، فَأَنَاخَهُ ثُمَّ انْتَزَعَ طَلَقًا مِنْ حَقَبِهِ ، فَقَيَّدَ بِهِ الْجَمَلَ ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ يَتَغَدَّى مَعَ الْقَوْمِ وَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ وَفِينَا ضَعْفَةٌ وَرِقَّةٌ فِي الظَّهْرِ وَبَعْضُنَا مُشَاةٌ ، إِذْ خَرَجَ يَشْتَدُّ ، فَأَتَى جَمَلَهُ ، فَأَطْلَقَ قَيْدَهُ ثُمَّ أَنَاخَهُ وَقَعَدَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَأَثَارَهُ فَاشْتَدَّ بِهِ الْجَمَلُ فَاتَّبَعَهُ رَجُلٌ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ وَرْقَاءَ ، قَالَ سَلَمَةُ : وَخَرَجْتُ أَشْتَدُّ ، فَكُنْتُ عِنْدَ وَرِكِ النَّاقَةِ ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمْتُ حَتَّى كُنْتُ عِنْدَ وَرِكِ الْجَمَلِ ، ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمْتُ حَتَّى أَخَذْتُ بِخِطَامِ الْجَمَلِ ، فَأَنَخْتُهُ فَلَمَّا وَضَعَ رُكْبَتَهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ اخْتَرَطْتُ سَيْفِي ، فَضَرَبْتُ رَأْسَ الرَّجُلِ فَنَدَرَ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ بِالْجَمَلِ أَقُودُهُ عَلَيْهِ رَحْلُهُ وَسِلَاحُهُ ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسُ مَعَهُ ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ قَتَلَ الرَّجُلَ ؟ ، قَالُوا : ابْنُ الْأَكْوَعِ ، قَالَ : لَهُ سَلَبُهُ أَجْمَعُ " .
It has been reported by Salama bin al-Akwa': We fought the Battle of Hawazin along with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . (One day) when we were having our breakfast with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him), a man came riding a red camel. He made it kneel down, extracted a strip of leather from its girth and tethered the camel with it. Then he began to take food with the people and look (curiously around). We were in a poor condition as some of us were on foot (being without any riding animals). All of a sudden, he left us hurriedy, came to his camel, untethered it, made it kneel down, mounted it and urged the beast which ran off with him. A man on a brown rhe-camel chased him (taking him for a spy). Salama (the narrator) said: I followed on foot. I ran on until I was near the thigh of the she-camel. I advanced further until I was near the haunches of the camel. I advanced still further until I caught hold of the nosestring of the camel. I made it kneel down. As soon as it placed its knee on the ground, I drew my sword and struck at the head, of the rider who fell down. I brought the camel driving it along with the man's baggage and weapons. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came forward to meet me and the people were with him. He asked: Who has killed the man? The people said: Ibn Akwa'. He said: Everything of the man is for him (Ibn Akwa').
Hadith 1755
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، قَالَ : " غَزَوْنَا فَزَارَةَ ، وَعَلَيْنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَمَّرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ الْمَاءِ سَاعَةٌ ، أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَعَرَّسْنَا ثُمَّ شَنَّ الْغَارَةَ ، فَوَرَدَ الْمَاءَ فَقَتَلَ مَنْ قَتَلَ عَلَيْهِ وَسَبَى ، وَأَنْظُرُ إِلَى عُنُقٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِمُ الذَّرَارِيُّ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونِي إِلَى الْجَبَلِ ، فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ بَيْنهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا السَّهْمَ وَقَفُوا ، فَجِئْتُ بِهِمْ أَسُوقُهُمْ وَفِيهِمُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ عَلَيْهَا قَشْعٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ ، قَالَ : الْقَشْعُ النِّطَعُ مَعَهَا ابْنَةٌ لَهَا مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ ، فَسُقْتُهُمْ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ بِهِمْ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ، فَنَفَّلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَتَهَا ، فَقَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا ، فَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي السُّوقِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا ، ثُمَّ لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْغَدِ فِي السُّوقِ ، فَقَالَ لِي : يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ ، فَقُلْتُ : هِيَ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَوَاللَّهِ مَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا ، فَبَعَثَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ ، فَفَدَى بِهَا نَاسًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَانُوا أُسِرُوا بِمَكَّةَ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Salama (b. al-Akwa') who said: We fought against the Fazara and Abu Bakr (RA) was the commander over us. He had been appointed by the Messenger oi Allah (ﷺ) . When we were only at an hour's distance from the water of the enemy, Abu Bakr (RA) ordered us to attack. We made a halt during the last part of the night to rest and then we attacked from all sides and reached their watering-place where a battle was fought. Some of the enemies were killed and some were taken prisoners. I saw a group of persons that consisted of women and children. I was afraid lest they should reach the mountain before me, so I shot an arrow between them and the mountain. When they saw the arrow, they stopped. So I brought them, driving them along. Among them was a woman from Banu Fazara. She was wearing a leather coat. With her was her daughter who was one of the prettiest girls in Arabia. I drove them along until I brought them to Abu Bakr (RA) who bestowed that girl upon me as a prize. So we arrived in Madinah. I had not yet disrobed her when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) met me in the street and said: Give me that girl, O Salama. I said: Messenger of Allah, she has fascinated me. I had not yet disrobed her. When on the next day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) again met me in the street, he said: O Salama, give me that girl, may God bless your father. I said: She is for you. Messenger of Allah! (ﷺ) By Allah, I have not yet disrobed her. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent her to the people of Makkah, and surrendered her as ransom for a number of Muslims who had been kept as prisoners at Makkah.
Hadith 1759
وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي . ح وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ : " أَنَّ عَائِشَةَزَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ : أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، سَأَلَتْ أَبَا بَكْرٍ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنْ يَقْسِمَ لَهَا مِيرَاثَهَا مِمَّا تَرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِمَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : لَا نُورَثُ مَا تَرَكْنَا صَدَقَةٌ " ، قَالَ : وَعَاشَتْ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سِتَّةَ أَشْهُرٍ ، وَكَانَتْ فَاطِمَةُ تَسْأَلُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ نَصِيبَهَا مِمَّا تَرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ ، وَفَدَكٍ وَصَدَقَتِهِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَأَبَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَلَيْهَا ذَلِكَ ، وَقَالَ : لَسْتُ تَارِكًا شَيْئًا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْمَلُ بِهِ ، إِلَّا عَمِلْتُ بِهِ ، إِنِّي أَخْشَى إِنْ تَرَكْتُ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ أَزِيغَ ، فَأَمَّا صَدَقَتُهُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَدَفَعَهَا عُمَرُ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ ، وَعَبَّاسٍ ، فَغَلَبَهُ عَلَيْهَا عَلِيٌّ ، وَأَمَّا خَيْبَرُ ، وَفَدَكُ فَأَمْسَكَهُمَا عُمَرُ ، وَقَالَ : هُمَا صَدَقَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَانَتَا لِحُقُوقِهِ الَّتِي تَعْرُوهُ وَنَوَائِبِهِ وَأَمْرُهُمَا إِلَى مَنْ وَلِيَ الْأَمْرَ ، قَالَ : فَهُمَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ إِلَى الْيَوْمِ .
It has been narrated by 'Urwa b Zubair on the authority of 'A'isha, wife of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) , that Fatima, daughter of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) , requested Abu Bakr, after the death of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him), that he should set apart her share from what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had left from the properties that God had bestowed upon him. Abu Bakr (RA) said to her: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace be npon him) said: "We do not have any heirs; what we leave behind is Sadaqa (charity)." The narrator said: She (Fatima) lived six months after the death of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and she used to demand from Abu Bakr (RA) her share from the legacy of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) from Khaibar, Fadak and his charitable endowments at Madinah. Abu Bakr (RA) refused to give her this, and said: I am not going to give up doing anything which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to do. I am afraid that if I go against his instructions in any matter I shall deviate from the right course. So far as the charitable endowments at Madinah were concerned, 'Umar handed them over to 'Ali and Abbas, but 'Ali got the better of him (and kept the property under his exclusive possession). And as far as Khaibar and Fadak were concerned 'Umar kept them with him, and said: These are the endowments of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to the Umma. Their income was spent on the discharge of the responsibilities that devolved upon him on the emergencies he had to meet. And their management was to be in the hands of one who managed the affairs (of the Islamic State). The narrator said: They have been managed as such up to this day.

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سِمَاكٌ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ ح ، وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ هُوَ سِمَاكٌ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ نَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَهُمْ أَلْفٌ وَأَصْحَابُهُ ثَلَاثُ مِائَةٍ وَتِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْقِبْلَةَ ثُمَّ مَدَّ يَدَيْهِ ، فَجَعَلَ يَهْتِفُ بِرَبِّهِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْجِزْ لِي مَا وَعَدْتَنِي ، اللَّهُمَّ آتِ مَا وَعَدْتَنِي ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ تُهْلِكْ هَذِهِ الْعِصَابَةَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْإِسْلَامِ لَا تُعْبَدْ فِي الْأَرْضِ ، فَمَا زَالَ يَهْتِفُ بِرَبِّهِ مَادًّا يَدَيْهِ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةِ حَتَّى سَقَطَ رِدَاؤُهُ عَنْ مَنْكِبَيْهِ ، فَأَتَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَأَخَذَ رِدَاءَهُ فَأَلْقَاهُ عَلَى مَنْكِبَيْهِ ثُمَّ الْتَزَمَهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ ، وَقَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، كَفَاكَ مُنَاشَدَتُكَ رَبَّكَ ، فَإِنَّهُ سَيُنْجِزُ لَكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَاسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ أَنِّي مُمِدُّكُمْ بِأَلْفٍ مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ مُرْدِفِينَ سورة الأنفال آية 9 فَأَمَدَّهُ اللَّهُ بِالْمَلَائِكَةِ ، قَالَ أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ : فَحَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَشْتَدُّ فِي أَثَرِ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَمَامَهُ إِذْ سَمِعَ ضَرْبَةً بِالسَّوْطِ ، فَوْقَهُ وَصَوْتَ الْفَارِسِ ، يَقُولُ : أَقْدِمْ حَيْزُومُ ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَى الْمُشْرِكِ أَمَامَهُ ، فَخَرَّ مُسْتَلْقِيًا ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ خُطِمَ أَنْفُهُ وَشُقَّ وَجْهُهُ كَضَرْبَةِ السَّوْطِ ، فَاخْضَرَّ ذَلِكَ أَجْمَعُ ، فَجَاءَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَحَدَّثَ بِذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : صَدَقْتَ ، ذَلِكَ مِنْ مَدَدِ السَّمَاءِ الثَّالِثَةِ ، فَقَتَلُوا يَوْمَئِذٍ سَبْعِينَ وَأَسَرُوا سَبْعِينَ ، قَالَ أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ : قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : فَلَمَّا أَسَرُوا الْأُسَارَى ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ : مَا تَرَوْنَ فِي هَؤُلَاءِ الْأُسَارَى ؟ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ هُمْ بَنُو الْعَمِّ وَالْعَشِيرَةِ أَرَى أَنْ تَأْخُذَ مِنْهُمْ ، فِدْيَةً فَتَكُونُ لَنَا قُوَّةً عَلَى الْكُفَّارِ فَعَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَهْدِيَهُمْ لِلْإِسْلَامِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا تَرَى يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؟ ، قُلْتُ : لَا وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا أَرَى الَّذِي رَأَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، وَلَكِنِّي أَرَى أَنْ تُمَكِّنَّا فَنَضْرِبَ أَعْنَاقَهُمْ فَتُمَكِّنَ عَلِيًّا مِنْ عَقِيلٍ ، فَيَضْرِبَ عُنُقَهُ وَتُمَكِّنِّي مِنْ فُلَانٍ نَسِيبًا لِعُمَرَ فَأَضْرِبَ عُنُقَهُ ، فَإِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَئِمَّةُ الْكُفْرِ وَصَنَادِيدُهَا ، فَهَوِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مَا قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَلَمْ يَهْوَ مَا قُلْتُ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ جِئْتُ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ قَاعِدَيْنِ يَبْكِيَانِ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَخْبِرْنِي مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ تَبْكِي أَنْتَ وَصَاحِبُكَ ؟ فَإِنْ وَجَدْتُ بُكَاءً بَكَيْتُ ، وَإِنْ لَمْ أَجِدْ بُكَاءً تَبَاكَيْتُ لِبُكَائِكُمَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَبْكِي لِلَّذِي عَرَضَ عَلَيَّ أَصْحَابُكَ مِنْ أَخْذِهِمُ الْفِدَاءَ لَقَدْ عُرِضَ عَلَيَّ عَذَابُهُمْ أَدْنَى مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ ، شَجَرَةٍ قَرِيبَةٍ مِنْ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا كَانَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ أَسْرَى حَتَّى يُثْخِنَ فِي الأَرْضِ سورة الأنفال آية 67 إِلَى قَوْلِهِ فَكُلُوا مِمَّا غَنِمْتُمْ حَلالا طَيِّبًا سورة الأنفال آية 69 فَأَحَلَّ اللَّهُ الْغَنِيمَةَ لَهُمْ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of 'Umar bin al-Khattab who said: When it was the day on which the Battle of Badr.
Hadith 1767
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " لَأُخْرِجَنَّ الْيَهُودَ ، وَالنَّصَارَى مِنْ جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ حَتَّى لَا أَدَعَ إِلَّا مُسْلِمًا " ،
It has been narrated by 'Umar bin al-Khattib that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim.
Hadith 1767
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَعْيَنَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْقِلٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Zubair with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1768
وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَبِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَقَالَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَقَدْ حَكَمْتَ فِيهِمْ بِحُكْمِ اللَّهِ " وَقَالَ مَرَّةً : " لَقَدْ حَكَمْتَ بِحُكْمِ الْمَلِكِ " .
Through the same chain of transmitters Shu'bah has narrated the same tradition in which he says that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said (to Sa'd): You have adjudged according to the command of God. And once he said: you have adjudged by the decision of a king.
Hadith 1776
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا عُمَارَةَ : ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَهُوَ أَقَلُّ مِنْ حَدِيثِهِمْ وَهَؤُلَاءِ أَتَمُّ حَدِيثًا .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Bara' with another chain of transmitters, but this hadith is short as compared with other ahadith which are more detailed.
Hadith 1777
وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، قَالَ : " غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حُنَيْنًا ، فَلَمَّا وَاجَهْنَا الْعَدُوَّ تَقَدَّمْتُ فَأَعْلُو ثَنِيَّةً ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْعَدُوِّ فَأَرْمِيهِ بِسَهْمٍ فَتَوَارَى عَنِّي ، فَمَا دَرَيْتُ مَا صَنَعَ وَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى الْقَوْمِ فَإِذَا هُمْ قَدْ طَلَعُوا مِنْ ثَنِيَّةٍ أُخْرَى ، فَالْتَقَوْا هُمْ وَصَحَابَةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَوَلَّى صَحَابَةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَرْجِعُ مُنْهَزِمًا وَعَلَيَّ بُرْدَتَانِ مُتَّزِرًا بِإِحْدَاهُمَا مُرْتَدِيًا بِالْأُخْرَى ، فَاسْتَطْلَقَ إِزَارِي فَجَمَعْتُهُمَا جَمِيعًا ، وَمَرَرْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُنْهَزِمًا وَهُوَ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ الشَّهْبَاءِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقَدْ رَأَى ابْنُ الْأَكْوَعِ فَزَعًا ، فَلَمَّا غَشُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَزَلَ عَنِ الْبَغْلَةِ ثُمَّ قَبَضَ قَبْضَةً مِنْ تُرَابٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقْبَلَ بِهِ وُجُوهَهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : شَاهَتِ الْوُجُوهُ فَمَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُمْ إِنْسَانًا إِلَّا مَلَأَ عَيْنَيْهِ تُرَابًا بِتِلْكَ الْقَبْضَةِ ، فَوَلَّوْا مُدْبِرِينَ فَهَزَمَهُمُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَقَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَنَائِمَهُمْ بَيْنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ " .
This tradition has been narrated on the authority of Salama who said: We fought by the side of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) at Hunain. When we encountered the enemy, I advanced and ascended a hillock. A man from the enemy side turned towards me and I shot him with an arrow. He (ducked and) hid himself from me. I could not understand what he did, but (all of a sudden) I saw that a group of people appeared from the other hillock. They and the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) met in combat, but the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) turned back and I too turned back defeated. I had two mantles, one of which I was wrapping round the waist (covering the lower part of my body) and the other I was putting around my shoulders. My waist-wrapper got loose and I held the two mantles together. (In this downcast condition) I passed by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who was riding on his white mule. He said: The son of Akwa' finds himself to be utterly perplexed. Where the Companions gathered round him from all sides. the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) got down from his mule, picked up a handful of dust from the ground, threw it into their (enemy) faces and said: May these faces be deformed. There was no one among the enemy whose eyes were not filled with the dust from this handful. So they turned back fleeing and Allah the Exalted and Glorious defeated them, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) distributed their booty among the Muslims.
Hadith 1778
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ الشَّاعِرِ الْأَعْمَى ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : " حَاصَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَهْلَ الطَّائِفِ فَلَمْ يَنَلْ مِنْهُمْ شَيْئًا ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ، قَالَ أَصْحَابُهُ : نَرْجِعُ وَلَمْ نَفْتَتِحْهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اغْدُوا عَلَى الْقِتَالِ ، فَغَدَوْا عَلَيْهِ فَأَصَابَهُمْ جِرَاحٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ غَدًا ، قَالَ : فَأَعْجَبَهُمْ ذَلِكَ فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Amr who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) besieged the people of Ta'if, but did get victory over them. He said: God willing, we shall return. His Companions said: Shall we depart without having conquered it? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: (All right) make a raid in the morning. They did so and were wounded (with the arrows showered upon them). So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: We shall depart tomorrow. (The narrator says): (Now) this (announcement) pleased them, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) laughed at (their waywardness).
Hadith 1788
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جميعا ، عَن جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا عِنْدَ حُذَيْفَةَ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : لَوْ أَدْرَكْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَاتَلْتُ مَعَهُ وَأَبْلَيْتُ ، فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : أَنْتَ كُنْتَ تَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ الْأَحْزَابِ ، وَأَخَذَتْنَا رِيحٌ شَدِيدَةٌ وَقُرٌّ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَلَا رَجُلٌ يَأْتِينِي بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ مَعِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، فَسَكَتْنَا فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَلَا رَجُلٌ يَأْتِينَا بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ مَعِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، فَسَكَتْنَا فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَلَا رَجُلٌ يَأْتِينَا بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ مَعِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، فَسَكَتْنَا فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ ، فَقَالَ : قُمْ يَا حُذَيْفَةُ فَأْتِنَا بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ ، فَلَمْ أَجِدْ بُدًّا إِذْ دَعَانِي بِاسْمِي أَنْ أَقُومَ ، قَالَ : اذْهَبْ فَأْتِنِي بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ وَلَا تَذْعَرْهُمْ عَلَيَّ " ، فَلَمَّا وَلَّيْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ جَعَلْتُ كَأَنَّمَا أَمْشِي فِي حَمَّامٍ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُهُمْ ، فَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ يَصْلِي ظَهْرَهُ بِالنَّارِ ، فَوَضَعْتُ سَهْمًا فِي كَبِدِ الْقَوْسِ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَرْمِيَهُ ، فَذَكَرْتُ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَا تَذْعَرْهُمْ عَلَيَّ وَلَوْ رَمَيْتُهُ لَأَصَبْتُهُ ، فَرَجَعْتُ وَأَنَا أَمْشِي فِي مِثْلِ الْحَمَّامِ ، فَلَمَّا أَتَيْتُهُ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِخَبَرِ الْقَوْمِ وَفَرَغْتُ قُرِرْتُ ، فَأَلْبَسَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ فَضْلِ عَبَاءَةٍ كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ يُصَلِّي فِيهَا ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ نَائِمًا حَتَّى أَصْبَحْتُ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ ، قَالَ : قُمْ يَا نَوْمَانُ " .
It has been narrated by Ibrahim al-Taimi on the authority of his father who said: We were sitting in the company of Hudhaifa. A man said: If I were in the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) , I would have fought by his side and would have striven hard for his causes. Hudhaifa said: You might have done that, (but you should not make a flourish of your enthusiasm). I was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the night of the Battle of Abzab and we were gripped by a violent wind and severe cold. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace be him) said: Hark, the man who (goes reconnoitring and) brings me the news of the enemy shall be ranked with me on the Day of Judgment by Allah (the Glorious and Exalted). We all kept quiet and none of us responded to him. (Again) he said: Hark, a man who (goes reconnoitring and) brings me the news of the enemy shall be ranked with me on the Day of Judgment by Allah (the Glorious and Exalted). We kept quiet and none of us responded to him. He again said: Hark, a man who (goes reconnoitring and) brings me the news of the enemy shall be ranked with me on the Day of Judgtuent by Allah (the Glorious and Exalted) Then he said: Get up Hudhaifa, bring me the news of the enemy. When he called me by name I had no alternative but to get up. He said: Go and bring me information about the enemy, and do nothing that may provoke them against me. When I left him, I felt warm as if I were walking in a heated bath until I reached them. I saw Abu Sufyan (RA) warming his back against fire I put an arrow in the middle of the bow intending to shoot at him, when I recalled the words of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) "Do not provoke them against me." Had I shot at him, I would have hit him. But I returned and (felt warm as if) I were walking in a heated bath (hammam). Presenting myself before him, I gave him information about the enemy. When I had done so, I began to feel cold, so the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wrapped me in a blanket that he had in excess to his own requirement and with which he used to cover himself while saying his prayers. So I continued to sleep until it was morning. When it was morning he said: Get up, O heavy sleeper.

وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ سَوَّادٍ الْعَامِرِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ التَّمِيمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُطَرِّفٍ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ أُصِيبَ وَجْهُهُ وَفِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ مُطَرِّفٍ جُرِحَ وَجْهُهُ .
The same tradition has been narrated on the authority of Sahl bin Sa'd through a different chain of transmitters with a slight difference in the wording.
Hadith 1365
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ " أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَزَا خَيْبَرَ ، قَالَ : فَصَلَّيْنَا عِنْدَهَا صَلَاةَ الْغَدَاةِ بِغَلَسٍ ، فَرَكِبَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَرَكِبَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَأَنَا رَدِيفُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، فَأَجْرَى نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي زُقَاقِ خَيْبَرَ ، وَإِنَّ رُكْبَتِي لَتَمَسُّ فَخِذَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَانْحَسَرَ الْإِزَارُ عَنْ فَخِذِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَإِنِّي لَأَرَى بَيَاضَ فَخِذَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ الْقَرْيَةَ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ خَرِبَتْ خَيْبَرُ " ، إِنَّا إِذَا نَزَلْنَا بِسَاحَةِ قَوْمٍ فَسَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ ، قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ ، قَالَ : وَقَدْ خَرَجَ الْقَوْمُ إِلَى أَعْمَالِهِمْ " ، فَقَالُوا : مُحَمَّدٌ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا : وَالْخَمِيسَ ، قَالَ : وَأَصَبْنَاهَا عَنْوَةً .
It has been narrated on the authority of Anas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) raided Khaibar. One morning we offered prayers in the darkness of early dawn (near Khaibar). Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mounted (his horse). Abu Talha mounted his and I mounted behind Abu Talha on the same horse. The Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah (ﷺ) rode through the streets of Khaibar and (I rode so close to him) that my knee touched the thigh of the Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah (ﷺ) . The wrapper got aside from his thigh, and I could see its whiteness. When he entered the town, he said: God is Great. Khaibar shall face destruction. When we descend in the city-square of a people, it is a bad day for them who have been warned (and have not taken heed). He said these words thrice. The people of the town had just come out from (their houses) to go about their jobs. They said (in surprise): Muhammad has come. We captured Khaibar by force.
Hadith 1813
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تِسْعَ عَشْرَةَ غَزْوَةً ، قَالَ جَابِرٌ : لَمْ أَشْهَدْ بَدْرًا وَلَا أُحُدًا مَنَعَنِي أَبِي ، فَلَمَّا قُتِلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ لَمْ أَتَخَلَّفْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ قَطُّ " .
It has been reported on the authority of Abu Zubair who heard Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) say: I fought in the company of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) nineteen battles. Jabir said: I did not participate in the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud. My father prevented me (from participating in these battles as my age was tender). After 'Abdullah (my father) was killed on the Day of Ubud, I never lagged behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and joined every battle (he fought).
Hadith 1817
حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِيهِ أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نِيَارٍ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : " خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِبَلَ بَدْرٍ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِحَرَّةِ الْوَبَرَةِ أَدْرَكَهُ رَجُلٌ قَدْ كَانَ يُذْكَرُ مِنْهُ جُرْأَةٌ وَنَجْدَةٌ ، فَفَرِحَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ رَأَوْهُ ، فَلَمَّا أَدْرَكَهُ ، قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : جِئْتُ لِأَتَّبِعَكَ وَأُصِيبَ مَعَكَ ، قَالَ لَهُ : رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : فَارْجِعْ فَلَنْ أَسْتَعِينَ بِمُشْرِكٍ ، قَالَتْ : ثُمَّ مَضَى حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالشَّجَرَةِ أَدْرَكَهُ الرَّجُلُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : كَمَا قَالَ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : كَمَا قَالَ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ، قَالَ : فَارْجِعْ فَلَنْ أَسْتَعِينَ بِمُشْرِكٍ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَأَدْرَكَهُ بِالْبَيْدَاءِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : كَمَا قَالَ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَانْطَلِقْ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of A'isha, wife of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) , who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set out for Badr. When he reached Harrat-ul-Wabara (a place four miles from Madinah) a man met him who was known for his valour and courage. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) were pleased to see him. He said: I have come so that I may follow you and get a share from the booty. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: Do you believe in Allah and His Apostle? He said: No. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Go back, I will not seek help from a Mushrik (polytheist). He went on until we reached Shajara, where the man met him again. He asked him the same question again and the man gave him the same answer. He said: Go back. I will not seek help from a Mushrik. The man returned and overtook him at Baida'? He asked him as he had asked previously: Do you believe in Allah and His Apostle? The man said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: Then come along with us.
Hadith 1818
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ يَعْنِيَانِ الْحِزَامِيَّ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ زُهَيْرٍ يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وقَالَ عَمْرٌو : رِوَايَةً " النَّاسُ تَبَعٌ لِقُرَيْشٍ فِي هَذَا الشَّأْنِ مُسْلِمُهُمْ لِمُسْلِمِهِمْ وَكَافِرُهُمْ لِكَافِرِهِمْ " .
It has been narrarted on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: People are subservient to the Quraish: the Muslims among them being subservient to the Muslims among them, and the disbelievers among the people being subservient to the disbelievers among them.
Hadith 1826
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كلاهما ، عَنْ الْمُقْرِئِ ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الْقُرَشِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي سَالِمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ ، إِنِّي أَرَاكَ ضَعِيفًا وَإِنِّي أُحِبُّ لَكَ مَا أُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِي لَا تَأَمَّرَنَّ عَلَى اثْنَيْنِ وَلَا تَوَلَّيَنَّ مَالَ يَتِيمٍ " .
It has been reported on the authority of Abu Dharr (RA) that the Messenger of of Allah (ﷺ) said: Abu Dharr, I find that thou art weak and I like for thee what I like for myself. Do not rule over (even) two persons and do not manage the property of an orphan.
Hadith 1827
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو يَعْنِي ابْنَ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَوْسٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ : يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ زُهَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَلَى مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُورٍ عَنْ يَمِينِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَكِلْتَا يَدَيْهِ يَمِينٌ الَّذِينَ يَعْدِلُونَ فِي حُكْمِهِمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ وَمَا وَلُوا " .
It has been narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah bin 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Behold! the Dispensers of justice will be seated on the pulpits of light beside God, on the right side of the Merciful, Exalted and Glorious. Either side of the Being is the right side both being equally mrneritorious. (The Dispensers of justice are) those who do justice in their rules, in matters relating to their families and in all that they undertake to do.

وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ . ح . وحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي يَعْنِي الْقَطَّانَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُجَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُثْمَانَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أُسَامَةُ كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ،
This tradition has been narrated through more; than one chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1831
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ ، فَذَكَرَ الْغُلُولَ فَعَظَّمَهُ وَعَظَّمَ أَمْرَهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ بَعِيرٌ لَهُ رُغَاءٌ ، يَقُولُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَغِثْنِي ، فَأَقُولُ : لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ فَرَسٌ لَهُ حَمْحَمَةٌ ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَغِثْنِي ، فَأَقُولُ : لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ شَاةٌ لَهَا ثُغَاءٌ ، يَقُولُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَغِثْنِي ، فَأَقُولُ : لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ نَفْسٌ لَهَا صِيَاحٌ ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَغِثْنِي ، فَأَقُولُ : لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ رِقَاعٌ تَخْفِقُ ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَغِثْنِي ، فَأَقُولُ : لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رَقَبَتِهِ صَامِتٌ ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَغِثْنِي ، فَأَقُولُ : لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكَ شَيْئًا ، قَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكَ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) who said: One day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood among us (to deliver a sermon). He talked about the misappropriation of booty, and declared it to be a serious matter and a grave sin. Then he said: I shouldn't find that any of you should come on the Day of Judgment with a growling camel mounted on his neck, and should appeal to me for help saying:" Messenger of Allah, help me." and I should say: I have no authority to help you; I already communicated to you. I shouldn't find that any of you should come on the Day of Judgment with a bleating ewe mounted on his neck, and he should say to me:" Messenger of Allah, help me," and I should say: I have no authority to help you; I conveyed to you. I shouldn't find that one of you should come on the Day of Judgment with a Person crying loudly mounted on his neck, and he should say to me:" Messenger of Allah, help me," and I should say: I have no authority to help you; I conveyed to you. I shouldn't find that any one of you should come on the Day of Judgment with fluttering clothes wrapped round his neck and he should say to me:" Messenger of Allah, help me," and I should say: I have no authority to help you; I conveyed to you. I shouldn't find that any of you should come on the Day of Judgment with a heap of gold and silver placed on his neck and he should say to me:" Messenger of Allah, help me." and I should say: I have no authority to help you; I already conveyed to you (the warning from the Almighty).

وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ ، وَعُمَارَةَ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ جميعا ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ ،
The above tradition has been narrated on the same authority through different chains of transmitters.
Hadith 1834
حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَهَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ : : " نَزَلَ يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ سورة النساء آية 59 فِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حُذَافَةَ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ السَّهْمِيِّ ، بَعَثَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ " ، أَخْبَرَنِيهِ يَعْلَى بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ .
It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn Juraij that the Qur'anic injunction:" O you who believe, obey Allah, His Apostle (ﷺ) and those in authority from amongst You" (iv. 59) -was revealed in respect of 'Abdullah bin Hudhafa bin Qais bin Adi al-Sha'bi who was despatched by the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) as leader of a military campaign. The narrator said: He was informed of this fact by Ya'la bin Muslim who was informed by Sa'id bin Jubair who in turn was informed by Ibn Abbas (RA) .
Hadith 1835
وحَدَّثَنِيهِ زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ وَمَنْ يَعْصِ الْأَمِيرَ فَقَدْ عَصَانِي .
The same tradition transmitted by different persons omits the portion: And whose disobeys the commander disobeys me.
Hadith 1839
وحَدَّثَنَاه زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of 'Ubaidullah.
Hadith 1840
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ وَتَقَارَبُوا فِي اللَّفْظِ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : " بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَرِيَّةً وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَجُلًا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ ، وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَيُطِيعُوا ، فَأَغْضَبُوهُ فِي شَيْءٍ ، فَقَالَ : اجْمَعُوا لِي حَطَبًا ، فَجَمَعُوا لَهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَوْقِدُوا نَارًا فَأَوْقَدُوا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَلَمْ يَأْمُرْكُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ تَسْمَعُوا لِي وَتُطِيعُوا ، قَالُوا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : فَادْخُلُوهَا ، قَالَ : فَنَظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ ، فَقَالُوا : إِنَّمَا فَرَرْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ النَّارِ ، فَكَانُوا كَذَلِكَ وَسَكَنَ غَضَبُهُ وَطُفِئَتِ النَّارُ ، فَلَمَّا رَجَعُوا ذَكَرُوا ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : لَوْ دَخَلُوهَا مَا خَرَجُوا مِنْهَا إِنَّمَا الطَّاعَةُ فِي الْمَعْرُوفِ " ،
It has been narrated on the authority of 'All who said: The Mersenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent an expeditionand appointed over the Mujahids a man from the Ansar. (While making the appointment), he ordered that his work should be listened to and obeyed. They made him angry in a matter. He said: Collect for me dry wood. They collected it for him. Then he said: Kindle a fire. They kindled (the fire). Then he said: Didn't the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) order you to listen to me and obey (my orders)? They said: Yes. He said: Enter the fire. The narrator says: (At this), they began to look at one another and said: We fled from the fire to (find refuge with) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (and now you order us to enter it). They stood quiet until his anger cooled down and the fire went out. When they returned, they related the incident to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . He said: If they had entered it, they would not have come out. Obedience (to the commander) is obligatory only in what is good.
Hadith 1841
حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ ، حَدَّثَنِي وَرْقَاءُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ ، فَإِنْ أَمَرَ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَعَدَلَ كَانَ لَهُ بِذَلِكَ أَجْرٌ ، وَإِنْ يَأْمُرْ بِغَيْرِهِ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْهُ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah (ﷺ) said: A commander (of the Muslims) is a shield for them. They fight behind him and they are protected by (him from tyrants and aggressors). If he enjoins fear of God, the Exalted and Glorious, and dispenses justice, there will be a (great) reward for him; and if he enjoins otherwise, it redounds on him.
Hadith 1844
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ زُهَيْرٌ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَإِذَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ جَالِسٌ فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ ، وَالنَّاسُ مُجْتَمِعُونَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ ، فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلًا فَمِنَّا مَنْ يُصْلِحُ خِبَاءَهُ ، وَمِنَّا مَنْ يَنْتَضِلُ ، وَمِنَّا مَنْ هُوَ فِي جَشَرِهِ إِذْ نَادَى مُنَادِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصَّلَاةَ جَامِعَةً ، فَاجْتَمَعْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ نَبِيٌّ قَبْلِي إِلَّا كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَدُلَّ أُمَّتَهُ عَلَى خَيْرِ مَا يَعْلَمُهُ لَهُمْ ، وَيُنْذِرَهُمْ شَرَّ مَا يَعْلَمُهُ لَهُمْ ، وَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكُمْ هَذِهِ جُعِلَ عَافِيَتُهَا فِي أَوَّلِهَا ، وَسَيُصِيبُ آخِرَهَا بَلَاءٌ وَأُمُورٌ تُنْكِرُونَهَا ، وَتَجِيءُ فِتْنَةٌ فَيُرَقِّقُ بَعْضُهَا بَعْضًا ، وَتَجِيءُ الْفِتْنَةُ فَيَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ هَذِهِ مُهْلِكَتِي ثُمَّ تَنْكَشِفُ ، وَتَجِيءُ الْفِتْنَةُ فَيَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ هَذِهِ هَذِهِ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُزَحْزَحَ عَنِ النَّارِ ، وَيُدْخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ ، فَلْتَأْتِهِ مَنِيَّتُهُ وَهُوَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ، وَلْيَأْتِ إِلَى النَّاسِ الَّذِي يُحِبُّ أَنْ يُؤْتَى إِلَيْهِ وَمَنْ بَايَعَ إِمَامًا فَأَعْطَاهُ صَفْقَةَ يَدِهِ وَثَمَرَةَ قَلْبِهِ ، فَلْيُطِعْهُ إِنِ اسْتَطَاعَ ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ آخَرُ يُنَازِعُهُ فَاضْرِبُوا عُنُقَ الْآخَرِ فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : أَنْشُدُكَ اللَّهَ آنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ ، فَأَهْوَى إِلَى أُذُنَيْهِ وَقَلْبِهِ بِيَدَيْهِ ، وَقَالَ : سَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَايَ وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : هَذَا ابْنُ عَمِّكَ مُعَاوِيَةُ يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نَأْكُلَ أَمْوَالَنَا بَيْنَنَا بِالْبَاطِلِ وَنَقْتُلَ أَنْفُسَنَا ، وَاللَّهُ يَقُولُ : يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَأْكُلُوا أَمْوَالَكُمْ بَيْنَكُمْ بِالْبَاطِلِ إِلا أَنْ تَكُونَ تِجَارَةً عَنْ تَرَاضٍ مِنْكُمْ وَلا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا سورة النساء آية 29 ، قَالَ : فَسَكَتَ سَاعَةً ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَطِعْهُ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ وَاعْصِهِ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ " ،
It has been narrated on the authority of 'Abdul Rahman bin Abd Rabb al-Ka’bah who said: I entered the mosque when 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As was sitting in the shade of the Ka’bah and the people had gathered around him. I betook myself to them and sat near him. (Now)'Abdullah said: I accompanied the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey. We halted at a place. Some of us began to set right their tents, others began to compete with one another in shooting, and others began to graze their beasts, when an announcer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) announced that the people should gather together for prayer, so we gathered around the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . He said: It was the duty of every Prophet (ﷺ) that has gone before me to guide his followers to what he knew was good for them and warn them against what he knew was bad for them; but this Umma of yours has its days of peace and (security) in the beginning of its career, and in the last phase of its existence it will be afflicted with trials and with things disagreeable to you. (In this phase of the Umma), there will be tremendous trials one after the other, each making the previous one dwindle into insignificance. When they would be afflicted with a trial, the believer would say: This is going to bring about my destruction. When at (the trial) is over, they would be afflicted with another trial, and the believer would say: This surely is going to be my end. Whoever wishes to be delivered from the fire and enter the garden should die with faith in Allah and the Last Day and should treat the people as he wishes to be treated by them. He who swears allegiance to a Caliph should give him the piedge of his hand and the sincerity of his heart (i. e. submit to him both outwardly as well as inwardly). He should obey him to the best of his capacity. It another man comes forward (as a claimant to Caliphate), disputing his authority, they (the Muslims) should behead the latter. The narrator says: I came close to him ('Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As) and said to him: Can you say on oath that you heard it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ? He pointed with his hands to his ears and his heart and said: My ears heard it and my mind retained it. I said to him: This cousin of yours, Mu'awiyah, orders us to unjustly consume our wealth among ourselves and to kill one another, while Allah says:" O ye who believe, do not consume your wealth among yourselves unjustly, unless it be trade based on mutual agreement, and do not kill yourselves. Verily, God is Merciful to you" (iv. 29). The narrator says that (hearing this)'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-As kept quiet for a while and then said: Obey him in so far as he is obedient to God; and diqobey him in matters involving disobedience to God.
Hadith 1848
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ غَيْلَانَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ رِيَاحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنَ الطَّاعَةِ وَفَارَقَ الْجَمَاعَةَ ثُمَّ مَاتَ مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً ، وَمَنْ قُتِلَ تَحْتَ رَايَةٍ عِمِّيَّةٍ يَغْضَبُ لِلْعَصَبَةِ وَيُقَاتِلُ لِلْعَصَبَةِ فَلَيْسَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ، وَمَنْ خَرَجَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي عَلَى أُمَّتِي يَضْرِبُ بَرَّهَا وَفَاجِرَهَا لَا يَتَحَاشَ مِنْ مُؤْمِنِهَا وَلَا يَفِي بِذِي عَهْدِهَا فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي " ،
It has been narrated (through a different chain of transmitters) on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Who defected from obedience (to the Amir) and separated from the main body of the Muslim-then he died in that state-would die the death of one belonging to the days of Jahillyya. And he who is killed under the banner of a man who is blind (to the cause for which he is fighting), who gets flared up with family pride and fights for his tribe-is not from my Umma, and whoso from my followers attacks my followers (indiscriminately) killing the righteous and the wicked of them, sparing not (even) those staunch in faith and fulfilling not his obligation towards them who have been given a pledge (of security), is not from me (i. e. is not my follower).
Hadith 1869
حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، وَالثَّقَفِيُّ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُثْمَانَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ وَالثَّقَفِيِّ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ سُفْيَانَ وَحَدِيثِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَنَالَهُ الْعَدُوُّ .
The above hadith has been narrated through several other chains with slight differences of wording.
Hadith 1870
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، وَأَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ جميعا ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ وَزَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ أَيُّوبَ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ حَمَّادٍ ، وَابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : فَجِئْتُ سَابِقًا فَطَفَّفَ بِي الْفَرَسُ الْمَسْجِدَ .
This tradition has been handed down through another chain of transmitters with the addition of the following words from'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) :" I came first in the race and my horse jumped into the mosque with me."
Hadith 1872
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْماَعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
The above tradition has also been narrated on the authority of Yunus through a different chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1875
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَي : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ سَلْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَكْرَهُ الشِّكَالَ مِنَ الْخَيْلِ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Abn Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to dislike the Shikal horse.
Hadith 1876
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْقَعْقَاعِ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَضَمَّنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ خَرَجَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ ، لَا يُخْرِجُهُ إِلَّا جِهَادًا فِي سَبِيلِي وَإِيمَانًا بِي وَتَصْدِيقًا بِرُسُلِي ، فَهُوَ عَلَيَّ ضَامِنٌ أَنْ أُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ أَوْ أَرْجِعَهُ إِلَى مَسْكَنِهِ الَّذِي خَرَجَ مِنْهُ نَائِلًا ، مَا نَالَ مِنْ أَجْرٍ أَوْ غَنِيمَةٍ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ مَا مِنْ كَلْمٍ يُكْلَمُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا جَاءَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَهَيْئَتِهِ ، حِينَ كُلِمَ لَوْنُهُ لَوْنُ دَمٍ وَرِيحُهُ مِسْكٌ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْلَا أَنْ يَشُقَّ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَا قَعَدْتُ خِلَافَ سَرِيَّةٍ تَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَبَدًا ، وَلَكِنْ لَا أَجِدُ سَعَةً ، فَأَحْمِلَهُمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ سَعَةً ، وَيَشُقُّ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا عَنِّي ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي أَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، فَأُقْتَلُ ثُمَّ أَغْزُو ، فَأُقْتَلُ ثُمَّ أَغْزُو فَأُقْتَلُ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace upon him) said: Allah has undertaken to look after the affairs of one who goes out to fight in His way believing in Him and affirming the truth of His Apostles. He is committed to His care that Re will either admit him to Paradise or bring him back to his home from where he set out with a reward or (his share of) booty. By the Being in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad. If a person gets wounded in the way of Allah, he will come on the Day of Judgment with his wound in the same condition as it was when it was first inflicted; its colour being the colour of blood but its smell will be the smell of musk. By, the Being in Whose Hand is Muhammad's life, if it were not to be too hard upon the Muslime. I would not lag behind any expedition which is going to fight in the cause of Allah. But I do not have abundant means to provide them (the Mujahids) with riding beasts, nor have they (i. e. all of them) abundant means (to provide themselves with all the means of Jihad) so that they could he left behind. By the Being in Whose Hand is Mubammgls lac, I love to fight in the way of Allah and be killed, to fight and again be killed and to fight again and be killed.
Hadith 1876
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يُكْلَمُ أَحَدٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ يُكْلَمُ فِي سَبِيلِهِ إِلَّا جَاءَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، وَجُرْحُهُ يَثْعَبُ اللَّوْنُ لَوْنُ دَمٍ وَالرِّيحُ رِيحُ مِسْكٍ " .
It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: One who is wounded in the way of Allah-and Allah knows better who is wounded in His way-will appear on the Day of Judgment with his wound bleediing. The colour (of its discharge) will be the colour of blood, (but) its smell will be the smell of musk.
