It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: A tamimah (amulet) is not what is hung after an affliction has come (as treatment); rather, a tamimah is what is hung before an affliction comes (in the belief that it will ward it off).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: That which is hung after an affliction has occurred is not a tamimah.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. (Imam al-Hakim says:) If anyone imagines that these two are mawquf reports (statements of Aishah alone), that is not so, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned amulets in many narrations; so Sayyidah Aishah's (may Allah be pleased with her) explanation of the tamimah is in the ruling of a musnad hadith.
It is narrated from the mother of Bukayr that she sent her son Makhramah to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who used to treat an ulcer that afflicts children. When Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) had finished treating him, she saw two iron anklets on the child's feet. She asked: "Do you think that these iron anklets will ward off something that Allah has decreed for him? Had I seen them earlier, he would not have been treated by me. And by my life, silver anklets are purer than these two."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
