أخبرنا الشيخ أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا أبو شُعيب الحرَّاني، حدثنا النُّفَيلي، حدثنا محمد بن سَلَمة، عن محمد بن إسحاق (4)، عن الزُّهْري، عن عُبيد الله ابن عبد الله بن عُتْبة بن مسعود، عن ابن عبّاس: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ لما خَرَج لفَتْح مكة استَخلَف أبا رُهْمٍ كُلثومَ بن حُصَين الغِفاريَّ على المدينة (5).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the Conquest of Makkah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed Abu Ruhm Kulthum bin Husayn al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) as his deputy (governor) over Madinah.
أخبرني أبو عبد الله محمد بن علي الصَّنعاني بمكة، حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم، أخبرنا عبد الرزاق، أخبرنا مَعمَر، عن الزُّهْري، حدثني ابنُ أخي أبي رُهم، أنه سمع أبا رُهُم كُلثومَ بن حُصين -من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ الذين بايعوا تحتَ الشَّجرة- قال: غزوتُ مع رسول الله ﷺ غزوةَ تَبُوكَ، فسِرتُ ذاتَ ليلةٍ معه ونحن بقُرْبِ رسول الله ﷺ وأُلقِيَ عليه النُّعاسُ، وجعلتُ أَستيقِظُ وقد دَنَتْ راحِلَتي من راحلةِ رسول الله ﷺ فَطَفِقتُ أَجْرُرُ (1) راحلتي عنه حتى غَلَبَتْني عَيْني في بعض الطريق ونحنُ في بعض الليل، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "إِنَّ أعَزَّ أهلي عليَّ أن يتخلَّفَ عنِّي المهاجرون من قُريشٍ والأنصارُ وأَسلَمُ وغِفارٌ" (2). ذكرُ حُذَيفة بن أَسِيد الغِفاري ﵁-

It is narrated from the nephew of Abu Ruhm that he heard Abu Ruhm Kulthum bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions who gave the pledge beneath the Tree, say: "I took part in the Battle of Tabuk with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). One night I was travelling close to him (peace and blessings be upon him) when drowsiness overcame him (peace and blessings be upon him). My mount came very close to the she-camel of him (peace and blessings be upon him), so I began pulling my mount away from him (peace and blessings be upon him), until at some hour of the night sleep overcame me. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Indeed, the hardest thing for me concerning my people is that the Muhajirun of Quraysh, the Ansar, and the tribes of Aslam and Ghifar should stay behind from me.'"
