Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6660

Khalifah bin Khayyat states that: The name of Abu Ruhm is Kulthum bin Husayn bin Khalid bin Mu'aysir bin Badr bin Ahmas bin Ghifar, and it is also said: Kulthum bin Hisn bin Utbah bin Khalid. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the Conquest of Makkah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed him as his deputy over Madinah.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscripts (M) and (B) this name has been corrupted into "Mu'ays", and in manuscript (S) into "Qays". The correct name has been entered in the text on the basis of "Tabaqat Khalifah" p. 32 and "Tahdhib al-Kamal" 24/ 204.
Note / Clarification: In Ibn 'Abd al-Barr's "al-Isti'ab" p. 805 and Ibn Hajar's "al-Isabah" 7/ 441, this name is recorded as "Mu'aysir", without the second "ya'".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts have "Husayn bin 'Ubayd", but the most likely view is that this is a corruption; so the correct name has been entered according to "Tabaqat Khalifah" and Imam al-Mizzi's "Tahdhib al-Kamal".

Important point: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also appointed him as his deputy (in Madinah) on the occasion of "'Umrat al-Qada'" and the "Battle of Khaybar", as mentioned in "Tarikh Khalifah" p. 97.
