It is narrated from Urwah that he said: On the day of the Battle of Ta'if, among the Muslims from Banu Taym bin Murrah, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) (was wounded). He was struck by an arrow, from the effect of which he died fifty days later.

Hisham bin Urwah narrates from his father that he said: During the stay in the cave (of Thawr), it was Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) who carried out the duty of bringing food to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sa'id bin Ufayr that he said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) died in the same year in which Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) died, that is, after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (in 11 AH).

It is narrated from al-Qasim bin Muhammad that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) was struck by an arrow on the day of the Battle of Ta'if. Then, forty days after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that wound opened up again and he passed away. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "O my dear daughter! By Allah, (his departure from the world is just) as if a goat had been seized by its ear and taken out of our house." She replied: "All praise belongs to Allah, who kept your heart firm (in patience) and kept you steadfast upon right guidance." Then he went out, came back in again and asked: "O my dear daughter! Are you not afraid that you people may have buried Abdullah while he was still alive?" She said: "O my father! 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un' (We belong to Allah and to Him we return)." He said: 'A'udhu billahi al-Sami' al-Alim min al-shaytan al-rajim' "I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from Satan the accursed. O daughter! Every person has two influencing forces (promptings) with him: one from the angel and one from Satan." The narrator says: Then a delegation of Banu Thaqif came to him, and that arrow was still kept with him. The arrow was brought before them, and he asked: "Does anyone among you recognise this arrow?" Sa'id bin Ubayd, the brother of Banu al-Ajlan, said: "This is the arrow that I shaped, fitted with feathers and bound with sinew at its end, and I am the one who shot it." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, this is the very arrow that martyred Abdullah bin Abi Bakr. So all praise belongs to Allah, who honoured him with martyrdom at your hand and did not disgrace you at his hand (by killing you in a state of disbelief), for the refuge of Allah is very vast."

(3). It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was shrouded in two pieces of striped Yemeni cloth that belonged to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both). He (peace and blessings be upon him) was wrapped in them and then they were removed. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) had kept that garment with him so that he might be shrouded in it after he died. Then, after keeping it, he said to himself: "How can I keep for myself something in which Allah prevented His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) from being shrouded (that is, those sheets had been removed)?" So Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) gave those sheets away in charity.
