It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a Muslim reaches the age of forty years, Allah Almighty removes from him three kinds of affliction: insanity, leprosy and vitiligo. And when he reaches fifty years, Allah forgives him his sins, the earlier and the later. He is a captive of Allah on earth (that is, bound by His command), and on the Day of Resurrection he will be an intercessor for the members of his household."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Important point: In manuscripts (Z) and (B) the word here has been distorted to "'an"; the correct text is according to manuscripts (S) and (M).
Grading: Its chain is "very weak", because al-Haytham bin al-Ash'ath and the shaykh of his shaykh are "majhul" (unknown). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Moreover, this chain is "munqati'", since Muhammad bin Abdullah is not established to have heard from Abdullah bin Abi Bakr. Al-Bazzar and al-Baghawi also declared it weak. Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar, al-Baghawi, al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi, al-Uqayli, Ibn Qani', al-Tabarani, Abu Nu'aym and Ibn Bishran narrated it through different routes via Uthman bin al-Haytham. Technical note / Defect ('illah): These narrations add "al-Haytham Abu Muhammad al-Aslami", who is an unknown person; there is also inconsistency in the name of Muhammad's father, between "Umarah" and "Ammar". Details of the narration: The gist of the hadith's wording is that when a Muslim reaches 40 years, Allah removes from him illnesses such as insanity, leprosy and vitiligo; at 50 his sins are lightened; at 60 he is granted the ability to turn back (to Allah); at 70 the inhabitants of heaven love him; at 80 his good deeds are recorded and his bad deeds erased; and at 90 his past and future sins are forgiven, and he becomes Allah's captive (dear one) on earth and an intercessor for his household. Note / Clarification: Apparently some text has dropped out (saqt) here in al-Hakim's narration. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Bazzar says that we know of no other narration from Abdullah bin Abi Bakr besides this one, and that several of its narrators are majhul. Al-Baghawi mentioned weakness and irsal in it, while according to al-Uqayli the chain of al-Haytham bin al-Ash'ath is not sound.
Important point: The word "Muhammad" is not present in manuscripts (Z) and (B).
