The virtues of Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah al-Qurashi (may Allah be pleased with him)

It is narrated from Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri that the mother of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah bin Habib bin Abd Shams was Arwa bint Abi al-Far'ah of Kinanah. He passed away in Basrah in the year 50 AH; Ziyad led his funeral prayer and walked in his funeral procession.

Uyaynah bin Abd al-Rahman narrates from his father that he said: I went out in the funeral of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Ziyad was walking ahead of the bier. Some of his (Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah's) freed slaves were walking backwards ahead of the bier, saying: "Gently, gently, may Allah bless you." The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) met us on the road at al-Mirbad. When he saw what those people were doing, he drove his mule at them, made as if to strike them with his whip, and said: "Clear the way! By the One who honoured the face of Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him), I have seen us with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) walking with the bier so quickly that we were almost running."

Hasan al-Basri states: Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah bin Habib bin Abd Shams (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith to us.
