Uyaynah bin Abd al-Rahman narrates from his father that he said: I went out in the funeral of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Ziyad was walking ahead of the bier. Some of his (Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah's) freed slaves were walking backwards ahead of the bier, saying: "Gently, gently, may Allah bless you." The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) met us on the road at al-Mirbad. When he saw what those people were doing, he drove his mule at them, made as if to strike them with his whip, and said: "Clear the way! By the One who honoured the face of Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him), I have seen us with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) walking with the bier so quickly that we were almost running."

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this is distorted into "al-ghalabah"; the correction is from the sources that record it.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Ahmad (34/ 20400) recorded it from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan; Abu Dawud (3183) and al-Nasa'i (2050) by way of Khalid bin al-Harith; Abu Dawud (3183) by way of 'Isa bin Yunus; and Ibn Hibban (3043) by way of Isma'il bin Ibrahim (Ibn 'Ulayyah); all four from 'Uyaynah bin 'Abd al-Rahman, with it. Note / Clarification: It has already passed in abridged form, as the marfu' hadith of Abu Bakrah, at number (1327) by way of Hushaym bin Bashir, and it will also come in abridged form at number (5997) by way of Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj, both from 'Uyaynah. But only in the hadith of Shu'bah does it occur "at the funeral of 'Uthman bin Abi al-'As", and the other narrators from 'Uyaynah bin 'Abd al-Rahman contradicted him.
