It is narrated from Habbah al-Urani that he said: We went with Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) to Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him about the trials (fitan). He said: "Stay with the Book of Allah wherever it takes you, and look for the group in which the son of Sumayyah (Ammar) is, and follow it, for he is with the Book of Allah wherever it is." The narrator said: We asked him: Who is the son of Sumayyah? He said: Ammar. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say to him: "You will not die until a rebellious group kills you. You will drink a draught of milk mixed with water, which will be your last sustenance in this world."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) and 'ali (with a short chain), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I hope that on the day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he did not love a man who would (ever) enter the Fire." People said: We used to see that he (peace and blessings be upon him) loved you, sought your help and appointed you as an official. He said: "Allah knows best about his love for me, but that is sufficient. And we used to see that he (peace and blessings be upon him) loved a (particular) man." They asked: Who is he? He said: "Ammar bin Yasir." The people said: Then he is the very one whom you people killed at the Battle of Siffin.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), if al-Hasan al-Basri's hearing from Amr bin al-As is established, for without doubt he lived in his time at Basrah.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Salimah that he said: On the day of Siffin I saw Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him). He was a tall, brown-complexioned old man holding a spear in his hand, and his hand was trembling (because of old age). He said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul! I have fought with this spear alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) three times, and this is the fourth. And by the One in whose Hand is my soul! Even if these people were to beat us until they drove us as far as the palm branches of Hajar, we would still know that our righteous people are upon the truth and that they are upon misguidance."
