The death of Khabbab bin al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) and his instructions about his burial

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Khabbab bin al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) that in Kufah the people used to bury their dead inside the city itself, until, when the time of death drew near for Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) and he became bedridden, he said to me: "O my dear son! Bury me at 'al-Zahr' (a raised place outside Kufah), for if you bury me there it will be said that a man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is buried here." So when Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, he was buried at "al-Zahr." He was the first person to be buried in that place, and after him people began burying their dead there.

Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) states that the lineage of Sayyiduna Khabbab bin al-Aratt goes through Jandalah bin Sa'd bin Khuzaymah and reaches Banu Sa'd bin Zayd Manat. It is mentioned about him that he was brought to Makkah as a captive, where Umm Anmar bint Siba' al-Khuza'iyyah bought him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between Sayyiduna Khabbab and Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) took part in the Battles of Badr, Uhud, al-Khandaq and all the battles alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He died in the year 37 AH, and at that time he was seventy-three years old.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him): I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was resting beneath a tree with his blessed hand placed under his head. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Will you not supplicate to Allah against these people (the disbelievers), about whom we fear that they will turn us away from our religion? He (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his blessed face away from me three times. Each time I kept saying the same, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) kept turning away. The third time he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat up and said: "O people! Fear Allah and be patient. By Allah! A man from among the believers before you would have a saw placed on his head and he would be split into two pieces, yet even this trial could not turn him away from his religion. So fear Allah; surely Allah is going to grant you victory and to set matters right (in your favour)."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him): I fear that the reward we earned alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) may be lost because of the worldly things that came to us after him (peace and blessings be upon him).
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
