It is narrated from Sa'd bin Ibrahim that he said: Al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) came (to Makkah) and said: "I will become the ally of the most honoured person of this city." So he became the ally of al-Aswad bin Abd Yaghuth. The narrator said: He was called al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad, whereas in reality he is al-Miqdad bin Amr al-Bahrani, and not Ibn al-Aswad al-Kindi.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I witnessed a deed of al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) such that had I been its doer, it would have been dearer to me than anything that could be weighed against it. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was supplicating against the polytheists. Al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! We will not say to you what the people of Musa (peace be upon him) said to him: 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight; we are sitting right here.' [Surah al-Ma'idah: 24] Rather, we will fight (against the enemies) on your right, on your left, in front of you and behind you." Abdullah said: I saw the blessed face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) light up at this, and it greatly pleased him.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it!
