It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him): "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: We will enlarge the Mosque (of the Prophet). Your house is near the Mosque, so give it to us so that we may add it to the Mosque, and I will give you a more spacious place than it." He replied: "I will not do so." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then I will prevail over you and take it (by force)." Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have no right to that, so appoint someone between you and me who will judge with the truth." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Who is he?" Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman." The narrator says: So they both came to Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) and related the whole story to him. Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have a report (knowledge) about this." Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "What is it?" Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet of Allah, Dawud (peace be upon him), intended to enlarge Bayt al-Maqdis, and near the mosque there was a house belonging to an orphan. He asked him for that house, but he refused, so Dawud (peace be upon him) wanted to take it by force. Thereupon Allah Almighty revealed to him: Of My houses, the one most free of injustice is My House (the mosque). So he left it." Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him (Umar, may Allah be pleased with him): "Is anything now left (to argue)?" He said: "No." The narrator says: Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the Mosque, and there a gutter-spout of Abbas's (may Allah be pleased with him) house was jutting out towards the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), from which rainwater would fall into the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) pulled that spout out with his own hand and said: "This spout will not pour into the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." At this Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "By the One who sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with the truth! He (peace and blessings be upon him) himself placed this spout in this place with his own blessed hand, and you, O Umar, have pulled it out." Hearing this, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Put your feet on my shoulders so that you may fix it back where it was." So Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) did so. Then Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have given you my house so that you may add it to the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) added it to the Mosque, and after that allotted Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) a more spacious place than it at al-Zawra.
We wrote this hadith down through Abu Ja'far and Abu Ali al-Hafiz, and we wrote it only with this chain. The two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not use Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam as evidence. And I have found a supporting narration (shahid) for it among the hadiths of the people of Syria:

It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyab that when Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to enlarge the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that enlargement reached as far as the house of Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him); then the narrator related an incident like the previous hadith.
