It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man demanded from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) some dates which he owed him as a debt. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) borrowed some dates from Khawlah bint Hakim (may Allah be pleased with her), paid them to him, and said: "I did have dates, but they were ones watered only by rain (growing wild)." Then he said: "This is how the believing servants of Allah act. Indeed, Allah does not show mercy to a people among whom the weak cannot take his right from the strong without faltering (fear and hesitation)." Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated only this one hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and no one other than Ghundar preserved its chain from Shu'bah (in this complete form).

Simak bin Harb said: We were with Mudrik bin al-Muhallab in Sijistan, and there I heard an elderly man narrating from Sayyiduna Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (as mentioned above), but that narrator did not mention the name of Abdullah bin Abi Sufyan in this chain.

Mus'ab bin Abdullah bin al-Zubayr said: Among the children of al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib who attained the companionship of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said about him: "He is the best of my family," or he said: "Indeed, he is among the best of my family." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "Indeed, he is the chief of the young men of the people of Paradise." He stood (firmly) with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Hunayn, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him in the darkness of dawn and asked: "Who is this?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, the son of your mother (that is, your brother)." A barber shaved his head and cut a wart (growth) that was there, from which blood flowed and did not stop until he died. This happened in the year 20 AH, and Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer. He had met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the way while he was setting out for the Conquest of Makkah, and he had accepted Islam before the Conquest of Makkah.
