The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praising some of his Companions by name

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Ishaq that Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred on the day of Yamamah, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) had appointed him commander of the Ansar alongside Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him).

Ahmad bin Sayyar relates that the kunyah of Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Abd al-Rahman.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What an excellent man Abu Bakr is! What an excellent man Umar is! What an excellent man Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah is! What an excellent man Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas is! What an excellent man Mu'adh bin Jabal is! What an excellent man Mu'adh bin Amr bin al-Jamuh is! And what bad men so-and-so and so-and-so are!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) named seven persons (among the bad men), but Suhayl did not tell us their names.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.
