It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me these words for the witr prayer: 'Allahumma-hdini fiman hadayt, wa barik li fima a'tayt, wa qini sharra ma qadayt, fa-innaka taqdi wa la yuqda 'alayk, wa innahu la yadhillu man walayt, tabarakta rabbana wa ta'alayt' (O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, bless me in what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. Indeed, You decree and none can decree against You, and the one whom You befriend is never humiliated. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Most High).

(1). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) addressed the people. He praised and extolled Allah, then said: "Tonight a man has passed away whom those before him could not surpass in deeds, nor will those who come after attain his rank. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give him his banner, and he would fight with Jibril (peace be upon him) on his right and Mika'il (peace be upon him) on his left, and he would not return until Allah granted victory at his hands. He left behind nothing in gold or silver except 700 dirhams remaining from his stipend, with which he wanted to buy a servant for his family." Then he said: "O people, whoever knows me knows me, and whoever does not know me (let him hear): I am Hasan bin Ali. I am the son of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I am the son of the executor (wasi), I am the son of the bearer of glad tidings and the warner (the Prophet), I am the son of the one who called to Allah by His permission, I am the son of the illuminating lamp. I am of the Ahl al-Bayt to whom Jibril (peace be upon him) used to descend and from whom he would ascend. I am of the Ahl al-Bayt from whom Allah removed impurity and whom He purified thoroughly. And I am of the Ahl al-Bayt whose love Allah has made obligatory upon every Muslim, for Allah Almighty said to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): 'Say: I do not ask you for any reward for this (conveying of the message) except love for near kin. And whoever earns a good deed, We will increase for him good therein' [Surah al-Shura: 23]. So earning a good deed means loving us, the Ahl al-Bayt."
