It is narrated from Wahb bin Munabbih (may Allah have mercy on him) that, speaking about Salih bin Ubayd bin Jabir bin Thamud bin Jathir bin Sam bin Nuh, he said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty sent Salih (peace be upon him) to his people when he was close to puberty. He was a man with a complexion white tinged with red and with straight hair, and he used to walk barefoot as Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon them both) (used to walk). He did not wear shoes, nor apply oil, nor had he made any house or dwelling for himself. He always stayed with the she-camel of his Lord: whichever direction she turned, he set off in that direction too, and wherever she halted, he stopped there too. He had fasted for forty days before the she-camel was hamstrung. On his right hand there was a mole as a sign. So he remained among them for forty years, calling them to Allah, from his boyhood until his hair turned white, but they (his people) only kept increasing in rebellion."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: During the expedition of Tabuk we camped at al-Hijr, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has prepared food with this (well's) water should throw it away." The narrator says: Some of them had kneaded dough and some had made hays (a mixture of dates, ghee and dried curd), so they threw it away.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it; however, both of them (Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim) agreed on the hadith of Juwayriyah bin Asma', from Nafi', from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the people camped with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Hijr of Thamud, but its wording is different.
