حدَّثنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدَّثنا السَّرِي بن خُزيمة، حدَّثنا موسى بن إسماعيل، حدَّثنا حماد بن سَلَمة، عن عطاء، عن عَرفجة، عن عبد الله بن مسعود قال: قَسَمُ ﴿وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ﴾: ﴿إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ﴾ إلى آخرها (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the answer to the oath (its purpose) in "By the sky containing great constellations" [Surah al-Buruj: 1] is this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "Indeed, the grip of your Lord is severe" [Surah al-Buruj: 12], to the end of the surah.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

حدثني علي بن عيسى الحِيرِي، حدَّثنا إبراهيم بن أبي طالب، حدَّثنا ابن أبي عمر، حدَّثنا سفيان، عن أبي حمزة الثُّمَالي، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: إنَّ ممّا خَلَقَ اللهُ لَلَوحًا محفوظًا من دُرَةٍ بيضاءَ، دَفَّتاهُ من ياقوتةٍ حمراء، قلمُه بر، وكتابُه نورٌ، يَنظُر فيه كلَّ يوم ثلاثَ مئة وستين نظرةً - أو مرةً - ففى كلِّ نظرة منها يَخلُق ويَرزُق ويُحيي ويُميت، ويُعِزُّ ويُذِلُّ، ويفعلُ ما يشاء، فذلك قولُه: ﴿كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِي شَأْنٍ﴾ [الرحمن: 29] (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: Among what Allah Almighty has created is a Preserved Tablet made of white pearl; its two covers are of red ruby, its pen is light and its writing is also light. Allah Almighty looks into it three hundred and sixty times every day, and with each look He creates, provides, gives life and causes death, honours and abases, and does whatever He wills. So this is the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "Every day He is in a (new) affair." [Surah al-Rahman: 29]
