ثُبُوتُ حِمَايَةِ الْحِمَى

حدثنا علي بن عيسى، حدثنا محمد بن عمرو الحَرَشي، حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى، أخبرنا المعتمِر بن سليمان التَّيمي، حدثنا أَبي، حدثنا أبو نَضْرة، عن أبي سعيد مولى أبي أُسيد الأنصاري قال: سمع عثمانُ بن عفَّان أنَّ وفدَ أهل مصر قد أَقبلوا، فاستَقبَلَهم، فلما سمعوا به أَقبلوا نحوَه، قال: وكَرِهَ أَن يَقدَمُوا عليه المدينةَ، قال: فأَتَوْه فقالوا له: ادعُ بالمُصحف، وافتَتِح السابعةَ -وكانوا يسمُّون سورةَ يونس السابعةَ- فقرأَها حتى أَتى على هذه الآية: ﴿قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ مِنْ رِزْقٍ فَجَعَلْتُمْ مِنْهُ حَرَامًا وَحَلَالًا قُلْ آللَّهُ أَذِنَ لَكُمْ أَمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَفْتَرُونَ﴾ [يونس: 59]، قالوا له: قِفْ، أرأيتَ ما حَمَيتَ من الحِمَى، الله أَذِنَ لك أم على الله تَفتَري؟ قال: فقال: امضِهْ، نَزَلَت في كذا وكذا، فأمَّا الحِمَى فإنَّ عمر حَمَى الحِمَى قَبْلي لإبل الصدقة، فلما وَلِيتُ وزادت إبلُ الصدقة، فزِدتُ في الحِمَى لِما زادَ في الصدقة (1). صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Abu Sa'id, the freed slave of Abu Usayd al-Ansari; he said: Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) heard that a delegation of the people of Egypt was approaching, so he went out to meet them. When they heard of him, they advanced towards him. The narrator said: Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked that they should enter Madinah. So when they reached him, they said: "Call for the Mushaf and open 'the seventh' (surah)" (they used to call Surah Yunus 'the seventh'). So he recited it until he reached this verse: "Say: Have you considered what Allah has sent down to you of provision, and you have made some of it unlawful and some lawful? Say: Has Allah permitted you, or do you invent lies about Allah?" [Surah Yunus: 59]. At this they said: "Stop! Tell us about the pastures you have reserved: has Allah permitted you this, or are you inventing lies about Allah?" He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Read on. This verse was revealed concerning such-and-such a matter. As for the pastures, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reserved pastures before me for the camels of charity. Then when I became caliph and the camels of charity increased in number, I enlarged the pasture because of the increase in the charity."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله الصَّفّار، حدثنا إسماعيل بن إسحاق، حدثنا أبو النعمان، حدثنا إسماعيل ابن عُلَيَّة، حدثنا أيوب، عن نافع قال: أطال الحَجَّاجُ الخُطْبَةَ، فوَضَعَ ابنُ عمر رأسَه في حِجْري، فقال الحجَّاج: إنَّ ابن الزُّبير بدَّل كتابَ الله، فقَعَدَ ابنُ عمر فقال: لا يستطيعُ ذاك أنت ولا ابنُ الزبير، ﴿لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ﴾ [يونس: 64]، فقال الحجَّاج: لقد أُوتِيتَ عِلمًا إنْ نَفَعَك (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) that al-Hajjaj prolonged the sermon, so Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) laid his head in my lap. During the sermon al-Hajjaj said: "Ibn al-Zubayr has altered the Book of Allah." On hearing this, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) sat up and said: "Neither you nor Ibn al-Zubayr has the power to do that, for Allah's word is: 'There is no changing the words of Allah' [Surah Yunus: 64]." At this al-Hajjaj said: "Indeed, you have been given knowledge, which may perhaps benefit you."
