أخبرنا أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد العَنبَري، حدثنا محمد بن عبد السلام، حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم، أخبرنا أبو خالد الأحمر، حدثنا سعد بن طارق أبو مالك الأشجَعي، حدثنا رِبْعيُّ بن حِرَاش، عن حُذيفة قال: "أُتِيَ الله بعبد من عبادِه آتاه الله مالًا، فقال له: ماذا عملتَ في الدنيا؟ - قال: ﴿وَلَا يَكْتُمُونَ اللَّهَ حَدِيثًا﴾ [النساء: 42]- فقال: ما عملتُ من شيء يا ربِّ إلَّا أنك آتيتني مالًا فكنتُ أبايع الناسَ، وكان من خُلُقي أن أيسِّرَ على المُوسِر وأُنظِرَ المُعسِرَ، قال الله: أنا أحقُّ بذلك منك، تَجاوَرُوا عن عبدي". فقال عُقْبة بن عامر الجُهَني وأبو مسعود الأنصاري: هكذا سمعنا من فِي رسول الله ﷺ (4).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One of His servants to whom Allah had given wealth was brought before Allah. Allah asked him: What deeds did you do in the world? (The narrator said: they) 'will not be able to conceal any statement from Allah' [Surah Al-Nisa': 42]. He said: My Lord, I did no (particular) deed except that You gave me wealth and I used to trade with people, and it was my habit to be lenient with the well-off (debtor) and to give respite to the one in hardship. Allah Almighty said: I am more entitled to that (forbearance) than you; pass over (the faults of) this servant of Mine." Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani and Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We too heard it like this from the blessed tongue of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

أخبرني أبو بكر بن أبي نصر المروَزي، حدثنا عبد العزيز بن حاتم، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن سعد، حدثنا عمرو بن أبي قيس، عن مُطرِّف، عن المنهال بن عمرو، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس: أنَّ رجلًا سأله عن هذه الآية: ﴿وَاللَّهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشْرِكِينَ﴾ [الأنعام: 23]، وقال في آية أخرى: ﴿وَلَا يَكْتُمُونَ اللَّهَ حَدِيثًا﴾ [النساء: 42]، فقال ابن عبَّاس: أما قوله: ﴿وَاللَّهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشْرِكِينَ﴾ فإنهم لما رأَوْا يومَ القيامة أنه لا يدخل الجنةَ إِلَّا أَهل الإسلام، قالوا: تعالَوا فلنَجحَدْ، فَخَتَمَ الله على أفواهِهم، فتكلَّمت أيديهم وأرجلُهم، فلا يَكتُمون اللهَ حديثًا (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked him about this verse, "By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who associated partners (with Allah)" [Surah Al-An'am: 23], whereas in another verse it says, "And they will not be able to conceal any statement from Allah" [Surah Al-Nisa': 42] (that is, how can this be?). Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "As for their saying, 'By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who associated partners,' (they will say this because) when they see on the Day of Resurrection that none but the people of Islam are entering Paradise, they will say: Come, let us also deny (our shirk). Then Allah Almighty will set a seal upon their mouths, and their hands and feet will speak; at that point they will not be able to conceal any statement from Allah."
