It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked him about this verse, "By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who associated partners (with Allah)" [Surah Al-An'am: 23], whereas in another verse it says, "And they will not be able to conceal any statement from Allah" [Surah Al-Nisa': 42] (that is, how can this be?). Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "As for their saying, 'By Allah, our Lord, we were not those who associated partners,' (they will say this because) when they see on the Day of Resurrection that none but the people of Islam are entering Paradise, they will say: Come, let us also deny (our shirk). Then Allah Almighty will set a seal upon their mouths, and their hands and feet will speak; at that point they will not be able to conceal any statement from Allah."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is hasan because of Abd al-Aziz bin Hatim and Amr bin Abi Qays. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Mutarrif is Ibn Tarif. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in his "Tafsir" (5/ 94), and likewise Ibn Abi Hatim (4/ 1274 and 8/ 2558), by two routes from Amr bin Abi Qays, with this chain.
