It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on the day of Badr with three hundred and fifteen fighters, just as (Sayyiduna) Talut had set out. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed, he supplicated for them, saying: 'Allahumma innahum hufatun fa-hmilhum, Allahumma innahum 'uratun fa-ksuhum, Allahumma innahum jiya'un fa-ashbi'hum' (O Allah, they are barefoot, so give them mounts; O Allah, they are unclothed, so clothe them; O Allah, they are hungry, so fill them). So Allah granted them victory on the day of Badr, and they returned in such a state that every one of them came back with one or two camels; they also obtained clothing and ate their fill.
