It is narrated from Sayyiduna Rifa'ah bin Rafi' al-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him) that when it was the day of Uhud and the polytheists turned back, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Straighten up (in rows) so that I may praise my Lord." So the people stood behind him (peace and blessings be upon him) in rows, and then he (peace and blessings be upon him) made this supplication: 'Allahumma lakal-hamdu kulluh. Allahumma inni as'alukan-na'ima yawmal-qiyamah, wal-amna yawmal-khawf. Allahumma 'a'idhun bika min sharri ma a'taytana wa sharri ma mana'tana. Allahumma qatilil-kafaratal-ladhina yukadhdhibuna rusulak, wa yasudduna 'an sabilik, waj'al 'alayhim rijzaka wa 'adhabakal-haqqal-haqq' (O Allah, all praise is Yours. O Allah, none can withhold what You extend, and none can extend what You withhold; none can guide the one whom You leave astray, and none can lead astray the one whom You guide; none can give what You withhold, and none can withhold what You give; none can bring near what You put far, and none can put far what You bring near. O Allah, spread over us Your blessings, Your mercy, Your grace and Your provision. O Allah, I ask You for bliss on the Day of Resurrection and security on the Day of Fear. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You have given us and from the evil of what You have withheld from us. O Allah, make faith beloved to us and adorn it in our hearts, and make disbelief, sin and disobedience hateful to our hearts, and include us among the rightly guided. O Allah, cause us to die in a state of Islam, keep us alive in a state of Islam, and join us with the righteous, in a state where we are neither disgraced nor put to trial. O Allah, destroy the disbelievers who deny Your messengers and turn people away from Your path, and send down upon them Your true scourge (punishment) and Your chastisement).
